The Bell Inn is several miles from Lyndhurst in the beautiful New Forest; lovely walks over heath and woodland and, if you're lucky, you'll encounter ponies, donkeys and pigs roaming free locally; drive carefully!

Lyndhurst is a great place to stay for exploring the New Forest. It has a good mix of interesting shops and restaurants and a good sized car-park in the centre.
That said, it can get very busy and there can be traffic queues in high-season since it is a bit of a bottleneck. So I'd recommend visiting slightly off-season.

What let it down for us was the lack of options for gluten free breakfast no cereals no fruit no yogurts then when we did get breakfast it was cold toast rock hard it wasn’t even busy only us two for breakfast
We wanted to order gluten free fish and chips but fryer broken so was limited on evening options but what we did order was tasty I must say I was impressed by the staff knowledge on g/f intolerance and allergies.

Lyndhurst has some interesting shops particularly the antiques emporium and some nice pubs and restaurants and the Anglican church of St Michael's where the original Alice who was the model for ''Alice in Wonderland''was buried.
I went to the Passage to India Indian restaurant which is quite near to the Penny Farthing hotel.
There is a Ferrari showroom if you want to check them out but the cars are very expensive.

It is a lovely village, full of character.
It is a lovely village, full of character. It was the fourth, or fifth, time we have stayed in, or around, Lyndhurst. There are great shops, cafe's, restaurants and pubs. It is small enough to comfortably walk around. We ate in "The Forage, which is a modern Italian style restaurant with a very good menu selection. The only issue is that Lyndhurst is a focal point for all the roads into and out of the NewForest, which often leads to long traffic queues into and out of the village. However, the main road through is one way, which makes it easier for pedestrians to cross.
The staff were all great, public rooms are lovely, gives a real sense of history and lots of cosy areas to sit in. The location is beautiful and I'd like to return in the summer when the garden is in flower. Due to one of our grandsons testing covid positive they could not join us, the hotel have generously offered us a voucher to use in the next 12 months to cover the cost of the non refundable family room. We're look forward to visiting Bartley Lodge again. Enjoyed being met on arrival by a New Forest pony at our car window.
Beautiful house with 3 bedrooms available. Owners helped bring the luggage to the rooms upstairs. Entrance is more or less private as the rest of the house can be, and is closed off. Breakfast was great, cooked to order, and the owners Nick and Judith spent some time chatting with us about their business location is perfect. The main street of Lyndhurst is very picturesque with lots of shops and restaurant from which to choose. Avalon house is just a 5 minute walk away. Would absolutely stay here again.
The location is perfect, easy access to Lyndhurst by car. Gorgeous surroundings of the New Forest and ponies to great you in the morning. The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety to cater for every taste and preference and the quality and portions were perfect.
It's very kid and dog friendly. We had a wonderful time and look forward to another stay at the Beaulieu Hotel.
We were well looked after and staff were very attentive. My wife is disabled although access was not the best, with the help of the staff this was not a problem. I have been coming to Lyndhurst for many years but this was the first time we had stayed at the Stag. We will be back again next year. Good value for money and a very pleasant stay. Many thanks to the Stag.!!
Stayed here previous to the new owners and has markedly improved under the new owners. Staff were very polite and attentive. Rooms have been stylishly updated and very clean. Food was well prepared and prompt service. The hotel was full as of August and might find it difficult to get a room ? Centrally situated in Lyndhurst which is in the heart of New Forest.
It was close enough to the main streets of Lyndhurst. Everything within walking distance. Everything needed was supplied, the room is clean, bed comfortable, enough drawers and cupboard for our things and coffee and tea facilities are nicely presented in the room. The breakfast was worthy of any good hotel and the hosts are very attentive.
The bungalows are apart from the hotel proper, so afford a high degree of privacy. And the location, on the edge of Lyndhurst, with a five-ten minute walk into town, suited us too.
Furthermore, I left something in the bungalow, but after a phone call, management posted it straightaway.
Laid out beautifully inside fitted kitchen dishwasher washer etc all the essentials comfortable beds tv with Netflix crossed road straight into New Forest and 10mins walk to Lyndhurst which has lots of nice places to eat and look around would stay again
Located in the middle of Lyndhurst the hotel was a great base for exploring the New Forest. The staff were very friendly and the room was comfortable and had everything we needed. We also had dinner in the hotel one night and the food was delicious.
The location was fabulous, within easy walking distance from Lyndhurst and The New Forest. There were paths from the property directly into the forest and horses and deer were often seen on those walks. The breakfast was lovely.
We missed breakfast due to time change but staff cooked us up something quick anyway. They couldn't have been more helpful. Short walk into Lyndhurst which has everything you need. Would definitely go back. Five stars.
All the staff team were really helpful and friendly. Our dog was given a sausage for breakfast each of the five days. The full breakfasts were just right. The location is really near Lyndhurst main street. Splendid!
Great room, great staff, great food. We will definitely return and are planning a group visit with some friends for some golf and Spa. The hotel is exactly what we wanted and matched the descripton.
Location is excellent. Hotel has friendly staff & tasty breakfast, enough choices. 2 minute walk in Lyndhurst and few minutes drive and you’re in the country side.
