The name Praze an Beeble was first recorded in 1697 and means the meadow of the pipe/conduit. The pipe can still be seen in the well opposite the entrance to medical centre.
There is a granite-lined ancient well on the site from which all of the domestic water is drawn (THIS IS THE SEPARATE KITCHEN/DINER). The water is of excellent quality (it is also filtered) and comes from the same source as the conduit after which the village is named.
The main building which forms the owner's accommodation (formerly the cow shed, the old cart store and hay loft) is now fully modernised and joined by a large sun room. The barns lie next to the Praze Stream, which runs through the garden and eventually joins the Red River north of Nancemellin near Gwithian.
The Piggery at the newly-renovated Moorfield Barns is a spacious double room with a well-appointed en-suite shower room and adjacent kitchen/diner. The property is a self-contained annexe which in the distant past (as the name suggests) was the piggery of a working farm. The annexe has separate access and features a private sun terrace and ample off-road parking. Towels and bed linen are provided, as well as free Wi-Fi, a 42" flat screen TV (with Freeview) and tea & coffee making facilities. There is enough hot water in the shower room for approximately 2 x 10 minute showers. The kitchen and dining room is situated in the adjacent Wellhouse, which is newly renovated and well equipped.
The Piggery is an entirely self-contained unit so your privacy is guaranteed. You will enjoy sole access to a private sun terrace and have ample off-road parking.
The village is in the parish of Crowan and is an ideal base from which to explore west Cornwall. It is a short drive to both the north and south coasts and the main towns of Hayle, St Ives, Penzance, Helston, Camborne and Redruth are all easily accessible.
Praze boasts a pub St Aubyn Arms, a village shop & post office (open 7am to 7pm, 7 days per week), a fish and chip shop and a bakery (selling the famous Philp's pasties). Historically, the St Aubyn family had their main residence here at Clowance Estate, which is now a holiday lodge centre and restaurant.
Every July locals and visitors enjoy the Praze Fair, which involves a parade of local residents and pupils from Crowan School, and a local marching band, and is preceded by a week-long visit from a touring funfair.
