The boat is accessed by a gangway from the harbour wall onto the deck to ensure safe and easy boarding. It is locked by a combination padlock on the main hatch. Accomodation is accessed by 2 hatches, the main hatch taking you into the open-plan saloon; galley (kitchen), and the second takes you from the cockpit into the first cabin, which can also be accesed from the rest of the accomodation area. There is a door that can be shut tomake this cabin private.
On deck there is a large cockpit (outdoor seating area) for you to eat outside, relax and read a book on a sunny day, or enjoy a sundowner.
The light and spacious saloon/lounge and dining area with comfortabe seating is the perfect place for a group to sit and enjoy some evening drinks and a boardgame together. With board games, playing cards and books onboard for your enjoyment.
The adjacent kitchen includes a coffee machine, kettle, microwave, fridge, toaster and crockery. We also supply basic cleaning equipment. Please note there is not a cooker onboard but there is such a wonderful and diverse choice of places to eat around the harbour for you to relax and enjoy!
There is a toilet onboard for liquid only and a toilet cabin on the quay for your use directly by the boat.
The boat has plenty of hot water for showers. Charlestown is a working harbour so occasionally the lock gate is lowered to let vessels either in or out, this is always very interesting to watch.
Tor, the host and owner will be there to greet you and show you how things work onboard. Tor lives nearby and will be available to help you throughout your stay. Any questions or queries you have please just ask. Tor may need to come onboard for stays over 3 nights just to top up the fresh water tanks, we will arrange a convient time with you for this.
My husband, Dave and I lived onboard Sea Lion with our four children in 2018/19 and sailed to the Caribbean. We were lucky that Dave is a very experienced sea captain and I also spent ten years working onboard traditional sailing ships before we had our children. We enjoyed endlass wonderful adventures, visiting many countries and islands. We encountered breath taking wildlife, we rescued a turtle that was entangled in netting, we fished, swam and explored and met many amazing people.
Now we are living back at home in Lostwithiel, while our children are back at school and college. I have been offering Sea Lion for rent in Charlestown, this has been a great success and I have met so many lovely people that have enjoyed the experience of boat life while safely alongside in the harbour!
Charlestown Harbour is a delightful and charming historical China clay port on the South Coast of Cornwall. There are two stunning beaches within meters of the boat as well as the harbour. This is a perfect setting to enjoy swimming, rockpooling, dog walking, sunbathing, watersports and simply relaxing. This beachfront location has easy access to Coastal footpaths and other beaches nearby in both directions. Mevagissey, Polkerris, Fowey and the Eden Project are all nearby. Surfing beaches on the North Coast are 30 min drive, Watergate Bay, Harlyn Bay, Constantine all offer surf lessons and have lifeguards... to name just a few. Enjoy the many popular eateries and bars located around the harbour for your morning coffee and cake, to BBQ, Pizzas and fish & chips. Alternatively dine in at one of the beautiful highend restaurants Charlestown has to offer. There are icecream shops, gallerys, antique shops all within a strole of the boat. You can explore the history of Charlestown at the Shipwreck and Heritage Museum too, I would recomend a visit.
There are several very good pubs, The Pier House Hotel and The Harbourside very close to the boat, food is excellent. The Harbourside has a pool table and shows the sport. The Pier House has a super terrace looking over the harbour with sea views. The Rashleigh Arms is a couple of mins walk up the hill. There are a number of excellent restaurents, The Longstore, The Boat House, Rebellion Roast House and Spring Tide. All are family friendly and the pubs are dog friendly too. You can buy fresh Cornish pasties and sandwiches locally too. Short and Strong is excellent for coffees, cakes. During the summer HarbourQ BBQ bar and restaurent is along the quay. There is a superb fish van in the harbour serving the most wonderful local fish dishes from fish and chips to scallop salads, prawns etc, you can sit in the sun or have a take away and enjoy eating onboard. The Rum Sailor Bar is a must for cocktails! Supermarkets are 1 Mile away.
