The room was spotlessly clean and fresh with complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee. Bathroom was bright and fresh and quite spacious.

English breakfast is served in a long room with a view onto the street, it was delicious with many options. The bed was comfortable with a pillow menu, there were enough mirrors, lighting and storage, & the showers were hot. My room had a good view of the River Wear & rowers. There was a downstairs bar with a snack menu. There was a dry-cleaning service & brochures about local attractions and night events. I drove to Raby castle built in the late 1300s (30+ minutes away) to see the original castle of my ancestors, the powerful Neville family, parents of Richard III. Raby castle has a cafe in a cute yurt with a good lunch menu. The current owner family have restored a few of the 100+ rooms.
The Marriott hotel is close to many pubs like the Swan and Three Cygnets, or the Half Moon Inn which had weekend bands. It's across the road from the Indigo hotel which houses a Marco Pierre White restaurant, inside the beautiful old domed town hall chambers. The menu is extensive & staff are very attentive to issues such as food intolerance. Durham Castle & cathedral are close to each other about 1 km away. The cathedral contains the remains of St. Cuthbert, probably England's first monk, & St. Bede, England's 1st chronicler. Two effigies of the Nevilles (sans their heads) are inside with beautiful stained glass windows. You'll find many school groups. There are staff dressed in purple to guide & assist you. You can have a good meal in the cathedral cafe where they pay great attention to food intolerances or allergies, and then naturally purchase souvenirs from the gift shop. If you like detective novels, you can buy novels by M M Hudson, set in Durham, from the Indigo & probably elsewhere.

Spennymoor and local area were very nice - better than expected.
Bishop Auckland park very nice as was the riverside wildflower meadow at Willington. Durham, not far away is excellent - one of the few cities to have got better over the years.

Frog and Ferret, excellent pub. Fish and Chips from locally chippy, moderately good. The Grand Electric Hall, Wetherspoon's, lovely building but worst didn't care staff I've ever encountered in a Spoons.

Do not book a standard double.
Do not book a standard double. They are tired, dirty and it defintiely feels like you are being put in a second rate room I would chose Travel Lodge over this place if you are just there for a bed for the night. Breakfast was very disapointing having been told when we were shown our table that the menu was not available and it was a buffet style instead. The cooked stuff was OK but there was no choice of eggs as advertised, or fish or porridge. I would say their advertising on-line details are misleading if providing a buffet is an option to replace a full menu without a discount.

A lovely bit of luxury and pampering for a long weekend.
A lovely bit of luxury and pampering for a long weekend. Staff so friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Even the weather smiled on us! Watching the deer at breakfast was quite magical.
Great communication with Gareth he's really helpful. The flat was basic but very clean and comfortable. He provided tea, coffee and milk which was nice. We only spent a while in the flat as we were meeting people for a night out. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was huge with a giant jacuzzi bath! Wish we'd had time to use it! All in all a very pleasant stay and a lovely host. If we do ever go back to Spennymoor we will definitely book the flat again.
A lovely, spacious, very clean, quiet, and well-equipped property that was an absolute pleasure to stay in. Spennymoor is a nice village, the property is in a great location with parking outside, easy access to local shops, and only a very short drive from Durham. The host was also very helpful and responsive.
Nicely situated for shops and restaurants with Parking right outside the front door. The house was beautiful inside and out, spotlessly clean with tasteful decor but really comfy and cosy. Contained everything you could possibly wish for. So much nicer than a hotel room.
Outside the norm of booking the usual hotel, Zillo apartments has a real home from home feel, with all the creature comforts you could ever need, it's cosy, modern, well equipped and will change your mindset when looking for a room for the night or a few days.
Clean tidy modern accommodation at a really good price 🙂
The host was soo responsive felt like I was in a hotel with on site staff .
The town centre nearby had plenty of essential amenities .
Thank you for a memorable stay 🙂
