Our comfortable rural country cottage, redecorated in 2018 to very high standards, is located on the edge of Newtown Common. An ideal peaceful retreat for families, friends, writers, artists & ramblers. Abundant country walks and local pubs await your visit. Tea, coffee, milk and sugar provided. Inbuilt oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher and washing machine. Wifi is available. Access to the cottage from the main road is via woodland track. Driveway parking for 2 cars. The Cottage is located in a beautiful secluded area. An ideal peaceful retreat for families, friends, writers, artists, ramblers and others. Abundant country walks and local pubs await your visit. Easy access to the following tourist attractions: Highclere Castle (the setting for Downton Abbey) and historic Donnington Castle are both within a few miles. Explore the home of Bombay Sapphire Gin. The distillery is located in Laverstoke - 13 miles away. Newbury (2 miles), offers a wide variety of high street stores and Hungerford (8 miles), is renowned for its antique shops. Newbury Racecourse, Beacon Hill, The Kennet and Avon canal, Watership Down, The Ridgeway (Britain’s oldest road) and Greenham Common are other local areas of interest. The World Heritage Site of Stonehenge is slightly further away, as is the White Horse at Uffington or the Roman City Walls and Amphitheatre at Silchester. The cities of Winchester, Salisbury, Malborough, Reading and Oxford are within easy reach. The National Trust have many properties in the area, from Sandham Memorial Chapel on our doorstep to The Vyne, Mottisfont or Hinton Ampner. This is an annexe to our home, where we have a strict no pets policy to ensure our guests with pet allergies have a safe place to stay.
Hi, I'm Hugo and welcome to Martingale Cottage. My family and I live next door to the cottage, so am available to assist during your stay and usually around to welcome you on your arrival. We do have some pets and some ponies, who you may find grazing in the paddocks next to the cottage.
