Oak Cottage is one of a handful of Grade II* listed cottages in the Lake District National Park on the edge of the Lowther Castle Estate. These delightful cottages, built in the 1770s, are situated in a conservation village designed by the renowned architect Robert Adam for the 1st Earl of Lonsdale. Lowther model village was said to have been built in order to move the original village, and thus improve the view from Lowther Castle. A collection of pretty sandstone cottages set around lawned courtyards, they have listed status, and the charm and character of these historic properties is retained and evident today. A visitor attraction in itself, the Lowther Estate offers guests a wealth of experiences - Lowther Castle with its stunning Gothic profile, the extensive gardens and picturesque grounds running down to the River Lowther.
