The space was very easy to be in with the open plan layout. Nice big comfy beds in spacious bedrooms. Spacious bathrooms which were spotlessly clean. Sun trap on the patio. Loved the log burner although we didn’t need to light it as the weather...

Company information

Offering the largest collection of cottages in the Coniston area, The Coppermines Lakes Cottages are the local experts. Independent Agents, locally owned, managed and staffed since 1982. The business was originally developed from the humble restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coniston Coppermines Valley by Philip Johnston and his family who still own our business today, making us one of the last independent agencies here in the Lake District. Over the years we have significantly grown to now offer over 90 hand-picked, unique, self-catering Lake District cottages (many pet-friendly), all of which are situated within the UNESCO World Heritage boundary.

Property information

No. 2 The Forge is nestled within a row of cosy terraced cottages, originally built to house the 19th century copper miners who toiled in the beautiful valley above. Having undergone major refurbishments, No. 2 The Forge now benefits from a host of mod cons yet manages to maintain its original cottage charm. This beautiful terrace stone and slate built cottage has an advantageous positioning, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Yewdale Road, yet close enough to access all the amenities Coniston village has to offer. A cosy & romantic hideaway, the presence of quality is apparent throughout thanks to the owners, who have lavished much care and attention on its restoration. There is a secluded terraced patio and gravelled garden to the rear of the property, a haven, and perfect for sitting out and admiring the dramatic backdrop of the surrounding woodland and fells. The front of the property offers a fantastic aspect over the bubbling Church Beck which runs through the heart of Coniston.

Neighbourhood information

The Forge Cottages are tucked away within Coniston Village alongside the bubbling Church Beck. With incredible mountain walks straight from the door, the lake nearby and all the amenities of Coniston village, including fantastic pubs, friendly cafes and local shops on your doorstep, they are the perfect all-round choice for a great break in the Lakes. Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes and there is incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man. The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery. For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views. The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away. In short, Coniston offers everything you could possibly want of a Lake District holiday - all right on your doorstep.
