Harleston, an ancient market town, has been voted Norfolk Town of the Year on several occasions. It has numerous cafes, eateries, pubs, quirky shops and antiques, and more practically a large supermarket, all along with plentiful free parking. Its situation makes it the perfect place to explore the rural heartland of Norfolk and Suffolk. Within a few minutes of walking or cycling, you will find yourself in lovely countryside. Serious fishing (with day passes) is available at Harleston Lakes, a 10-minute walk away, along with miles of easy access to the River Waveney and some of the wonderful wildlife to be found nearby. Wild swimming in the river is one of life’s idyllic pleasures. try Outney Common on the northern tip of Bungay; Canoeing is also available at Outney meadow caravan park. Wine tasting and tours at Flint Vineyard is just 10 minutes down the road. Bungay and Diss – 7-11 miles away - are both delightful historic towns. There are golf courses in each town, as well as the Norfolk Aviation museum in Bungay. Alternatively, visit historic Norwich, or the Victorian seaside towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh, all within a short drive (35-45min). Norwich is a major city with all the amenities ( and fantastic nightlfe ) you would hope for as well as an amazing Castle Museum and the internationally renowned Sainsbury Visual Arts Centre. Other great places to visit, include Minsmere Bird reserve, Dunwich, Snape Maltings music festival , Orford, Framlingham and of course the Broads.
