There is also the RSPB Scotland Mull of Galloway nature reserve where thousands of seabirds nest in the cliff face during the spring and summer, and harbour porpoises, dolphins, seals, otters and minke whales can also be spotted. The town of Stranraer offers a selection of shops and restaurants and Cairnryan is home to the Stena Line ferry which makes regular trips to Ireland for further sightseeing. Dumfries and Galloway is ideal for walkers, with a number of spectacular coastal paths, and even in mid-season you can often find your own secret beach.
