Company info

Offering the largest collection of cottages in the Coniston area, The Coppermines Lakes Cottages are the local experts. Independent Agents, locally owned, managed and staffed since 1982. The business was originally developed from the humble restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coniston Coppermines Valley by Philip Johnston and his family who still own our business today, making us one of the last independent agencies here in the Lake District. Over the years we have significantly grown to now offer over 90 hand-picked, unique, self-catering Lake District cottages (many pet-friendly), all of which are situated within the UNESCO World Heritage boundary.

Property info

As you climb out of Coniston on the road heading towards Hawkshead, lies the charming 300 year old Hollin Bank Barn. If you're coming to the Lake District primarily to enjoy the views, then you can't overlook this cottage. It has simply breath-taking views, looking south down along length of Coniston Water. You could quite easily just wallow in the view, and not do anything else, it is that astonishing. Perfectly positioned this comfortable cottage really does enjoy the best of both worlds. Peace and seclusion yet only a few minutes' drive from all local amenities. Outdoor enthusiasts will marvel in the plethora of footpaths and cycle ways accessible from the front door, including the delights of the nearby Grizedale Forest and Tarn Hows. In essence Hollin Bank Barn is a charming Lakeland cottage, perfectly suited for couples, friends and families alike.

Local Activities Coniston is an excellent centre for outdoor enthusiasts, with some superb climbing, walking, water sports, fishing and cycling to be had all year round. For cycling enthusiasts there are some fantastic trails to be found in the area and the delights of Grizedale Forest are only a short ride away. For runners of all abilities the Lakeland Trail series visits Coniston yearly offering 5k, 10k, marathon and half marathon options. A favourite events amongst visitors and locals is the annual Coniston 14, 13.9 miles of scenic beauty as runners of all ages lap Coniston Water. For endurance athletes the Montane Lakeland 100 & Lakeland 50 events depart from Coniston each July and a whole host of water sports can be enjoyed down at the boating centre. Lastly for those who come to walk the area, no trip to Coniston would be complete without a climb up the Old Man of Coniston. However for those who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground there's The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell and on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood the Victorian home of philosopher John Ruskin, where regular events and art courses are held. Should you just wish to relax during your time here then the tremendous landscape of cascading waterfalls, streams, lakes and mountains should help you switch off from modern life.
