Friendly welcome on arrival. This was our 3rd stay here. Location is ideal for local bars and restaurants. Weather was great which was a bonus. The room was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee facilities included. Excellent value for money. Will definitely be back.

You need to book well in advance if you want to watch the Black Cats at the stadium of light! There is a nice railway connection to nearby Seaham if you want to visit. You can walk along the Wear through a sculpture park and the city centre is excellent for cheap food and drink.

Sunderland was good, but if you want 4* service at 4* prices don't go to The Grand. Only pub food and you make your own bed and carry out own room service. REALLY NOT ON.
Good point, staff lovely and very helpful

Everything the people were generous in there attitude towards visitors there was plenty to do and visit public transport was readily available prices across the board were comparable to normal residential areas unusual for a top tourist attraction
After reading reviews I was not looking forward to our stay however, from check in to check out our we were not disappointed. Checked in 1 hour early we upgraded to a superior sea view room, although the furniture was a bit tired and the floor very creeky we were happy with our room. The breakfast was plentiful, hot and tasty we noticed when items were low it was replenished quickly. If we are in Sunderland again The Grand Hotel is definitely a hotel we would look at returning to.
“Lovely Hotel, made extremely welcome by Diane. Little kitchen available to use and bread and milk to make complementary toast tea and cereals. Room clean and kettle with refreshments. Hotel attached to a fabulous bar/restaurant
'Knowledge' where we had beautiful meal and drinks. The hotel is within walking distance to Sunderland centre with shops and The Stadium of Light for the football. Our second stay, and definitely not our last ❤️”
AA Sunderland defrauded me, the hotel doesn't exist, after booking a room with AA Sunderland, a day before my check in the hotel was asking for more additional £50. On the check in day, I called multiple times and no one answered, even when I emailed, I got no reply.
Luckily for me, I used Paypal, after investigating the matter, Paypal refunded me in full.
Please beware, AA Sunderland is fraud.
We stayed with our 2 children. Loved how big the room was and how homely it felt. Our children loved the divider curtain. We come up every few months to visit my husbands family (he us from sunderland) and normally change hotels each trip, but Lijie made us feel so welcome so we will definitely be coming back. A wonderful place.
Nice clean well presented hotel connected to a excellent modern pub with a very good atmosphere in and around the place due to the amenities around the area, with an excellent choice of food and drink, this was our first stay but we were aware of what was on offer due to a recent stop in Sunderland.
This was the worst experience ever I went to the hotel after booking and paying for it got to the door and they refuse me at my entry they told me that I needed to pay more money on WhatsApp and if I didn't they would not let me in they left me out in the cold all night disgusting
Love this hotel. We were at a function at the roker hotel and this was within walking distance. Great price. The bed was really comfortable and the room was clean. The staff were lovely and showed us to the room. Would definitely recommend and stay again! Thanks for having us
Perfect location on the sea front and close to the city centre and Stadium of Light, the Roker Hotel is ideal for a family break, business or sports.
Friendly staff, good choice of Breakfast and good restaurants and bar.
Rooms good with comfortable beds.
Everything. Staff at reception so lovely and extremely helpful as were other staff. It was a fantastic experience. You cannot beat the friendliness of Sunderland people. Wonderful to see all the new development. You must give it a try
Clean well presented and maintained room. Tea, Toast and cereal available for Breakfast as downstairs is being renovated. I will stay again when I'm back in Sunderland working👍
Close to the city centre and much better than a hotel with 4 of us so we had more space that a room. Useful having the kitchen and dining area to chill before we went out
