Accessed by stone stairs, the cottage originally formed part of the Crown and Anchor public house which was built in the early 1800s into part of the boundary wall of Pittenweem Priory, an Augustinian monastery, dating back to the 12th century, and built over a sacred cave associated with St Fillan.
