It was wonderful to stay in an old house on Gulangyu. I especially enjoyed the breakfasts--simple, delicious, and served in a wonderfully cozy room full of plants and small animals. The small staff has a nice human touch. Great all around! I also liked that the windows were operable, and that there were several outdoor patios to enjoy the balmy weather.

Bed was nice, the staff was very friendly and helpful with giving us directions as to where restaurants are and how to get to the popular tourist attractions such as the Old Street or how to get to the high speed train station. She even mentioned how much it would cost when going by taxi so we wouldn't get scammed. Optional breakfast was very cheap and you can eat as much as you need for only 10 rmb.

Really lovely place, incredibly nice and helpful staff. Rooms super comfortable, spacious and clean. Great location, can walk to south entrance of Huangshan national park from hotel.
The hosts were the kindest, most helpful hostel hosts I’ve ever had. They made us food when we came back late and made it vegetarian when my vegetarian friend could find no other. They even posted me my scarf I left there. I would definitely return.

Owner was super helpful, he even arranged us a really cheap private transfer from train station to their hotel. He organized us a trip and gave us a map so we didn't get lost on the mountain. His mother cooked us great breakfast and dinner.
