Relatively close to centre (15 mins on foot). It’s worth mentioning that Cecilia and her son organized the return of our phone (to Poland) which we left there. We are really thankful for their effort and honesty. 🫶

We can't recommend this place enough, as soon as we walked in we felt at home, the owner is so so friendly and made us feel so welcome. We speak very basic Spanish and she was very patient to let us practice and we had some lovely conversations. The rooms were spotless, and they were cleaned every day we were there, and the beds were super comfy. The breakfast was the best we've had in any hotel in South America (coffee, cereal, juice, bread, yoghurts, waffles, egg).

Rooms have a private bathroom and a flat-screen TV is available. The owner was extremely nice and helpful and always cheerful and accommodating. The city center is a 7-10 min walk but there are convenient stores on the street and a Peruvian restaurant right around the block that served good food for the price in comparison to city center. There is a community kitchen where you can prepare your own food, tea or coffee. The wifi worked well as did the hot water. during the winter there is no central heat (normal throughout the town) so a space heater and blankets will be what keeps you warm.

If we had to leave early for the tours they would leave the breakfast in paper bags for us. They have available hot water in a thermos all day for coffee or tea. Also spring water available so we didn't have to buy more bottles of water. About 10 minutes from caracoles.. Tony, the owner let us leave the luggage in the storage room after the check out so we could spend some more time in Caracoles. I would definitely stay there again.

The hostel is 1.1 km from both R.P. Gustavo Le Paige Archeological Museum and Inca House. Mrs. Elvira, who attended to us, was very sweet and attentive, always in a good mood and with a smile on her face. Although it is located far from the town's center, the hotel is like a refuge, there is not much movement and it is very peaceful. It is possible to rent bicycles to go faster to the town centre, although we didn't rent one, we went on foot. They seemed to be doing some work to improve the space, but more improvements were needed in the surroundings. The street needed to be significantly improved, but it's not the hotel's fault. I highly recommend it if you want to spend a few days, there is parking for your car. TIP for travellers: San Pedro de Atacama seems to be a calm place, there is a lot to see and getting around by car seems to be a much more pleasant option than rushing around on tours. Shower water is hot during the day, and at night it takes a little longer to heat up. Self-service breakfast and complete. Elvira kindly prepared the table for us each morning.

My room was extremely clean. The bed very comfortable. Location was good. A quick walk to the town center. Would recommend a stay here.

The hostel is located in a tranquil area right next to a grocery store. Gustavo Le Paige museum is a 5-minute walk away. Calama Airport is approximately a 1-hour drive away. Shuttle services can be arranged for an extra fee. My stay at Hostal Campo Base was excellent. Rodrigo was an excellent host who did everything possible to make sure my stay was as comfortable as possible. From wonderful recommendations to a heightened awareness of the small things - I couldn't recommend this Hostal more.
