Lugano
The Hotel&Hostel Montarina occupies a historic Villa built around 1860, only 200 metres from the Lugano train station. It offers a park with a pool, free WiFi and a limited number of free parking spaces. Everything about it was great. I've reached a bit late for the check-in found a really nice lady that helped me with everything and explained to me what to do. You will have to put a cash deposit for the key (20 euros or something similar) don't worry if you don't have cash you can just give her something to hold onto like a licence or your id. It was very comfortable, there was privacy in between the beds and the place is gorgeous. I didn't go to the swimming pool as i had a little inconvenience however there's a very nice pool there and it's lovely overall. Enjoyed it !
Carona
The Casa Calina is a newly renovated guest house with a large garden in a quiet location in Carona, with beautiful views over Lake Lugano. Free Wi-Fi is available.
Each room at Casa Calina has its own terrace offering superb views of the mountains of Ticino, Lake Lugano and the surrounding area. 3 rooms share a common bathroom. A kitchen and dining room for the guest's use are available as well.
The location is a bit remote from the city of Lugano, but the views are wonderful and it's surrounded by nature.
The house itself is very cozy, welcoming and well maintained.
Comfortable stay, the rooms are simple but good for the price. Suggest asking for a room that is not interconnecting so a little quieter. Staff were really friendly and although we didn’t have breakfast ( we were on bikes and on a very tight budget) they offered us a coffee before we left. Safe place to put bikes.
Savosa Youth Hostel was an amazing stay for the price in Lugano. Publish Transport is within a few mins of a walk. Availability of Guest Kitchen was an addon.
The stuff was very friendly, the location for a youth hostel was amazing, the room was very clean and we enjoy our stay very much. We’ll return for sure.
Montarina is a clean, well managed low-budget hostel in the Heart of Lugano. It is located in a lovely private garden and close to the city center. Recommendable to families with younger children, young couples, singles and aging people who are still young in spirit.
Price/ quality is okay. Tourist tax 4,5 per person per night on top It is indeed one of the cheapest option to stay overnight in Lugano, if you don't want to sleep in a dormitory room. Reachable from the train station. Own bathroom and room is okay to stay a few nights.
Safe area near the city centre of Lugano! Exceptional staff who gave us tips on where to go in Lugano and gave us Ticino tickets to travel the area. Fair, budget option which has a microwave and kettle to use (other facilities require an extra payment of 15 chf). Great that we could also use the laundry room equipped with washing machines and dryers.
Hostel has a nice swimming pool and relaxing area around it. Great location for travelers, in front of the station
Great location, helpful staff, basic cheap and cheerful room.
Let's face it. It is called Ibis Budget, what can you expect. Compared to other hotels in Lugano, it was cheap. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean, the breakfast was great and the location was decent (10minute walk to the old center).
