It has been a great pleasure to stay at Green Tortoise Hostel. The location is perfect. It took less than an hour to get there by the 1 Line from the airport. As it is located right across the Pike Place Market, it was so convenient to walk outside and take a long walk along the market, enjoy good food, and get some coffee. I also appreciate all the staff's kindness and thoughtfulness. I stayed at the hostel for a week and could observe how they welcomed other travelers and organized a nice Christmas dinner! If I travel to Seattle again, either alone or with some friends, I would like to stay here again.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.

Staff were friendly, bathrooms clean and other than one of the showers with bad water pressure the rest were fine, seems an old hostel which needs a bit of work but it was kept to a good standard considering. WiFi was pretty bad, had to buy additional data to just watch something on my phone and it’s in a noisy area with cars and people shouting outside. Cheap and cheerful and you get what you pay for, that’s by no means a negative just an observation.

Gorgeous property in a great location for being able to get to restaurants, bars and tourist spots on foot. Ryan greeted us upon arrival and was a lovely touch to be welcomed after a long flight, and to get local recommendations. The stay was amazing and felt like we were staying in a home away from home. Felt safe and cosy! wish we were staying longer and would definitely return!

Very friendly and diverse staff. The house rules and the secure luggage deposit next to the reception make this hostel a safe place. Nice seating area to mingle with other visitors. Free evening events and daily offers for free walking tours. Many bathrooms on each floor.

The location is near bloody perfect. Light rail to the cbd or airport is one minute away, bus transport to districts further afield is five minutes walk away. The cbd is about a twenty minute walk away. All guests here are obviously on a limited budget, it's not like a backpackers just for young world travellers wanting to party. There are family groups with young children, older couples doing it cheap, the usual groups of vibrant girls or guys looking to save their money for a good time.

Great location - close to public transit, multiple restaurants, and a grocery store. The area around the hostel felt a little sketchy at times but nothing we were too worried about, and the hostel itself felt very safe. The staff were friendly and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. The kitchen and living areas were large and seemed nice, although we didn't spend much time there. The price was also much better than anything else we could find in Seattle, although still expensive compared to what we are used to.

The location cannot be beat. It’s centran and close to everything really. You could explore most of the tourist sightseeings just walking or taking a quick bus ride. Other that the location, it’s just an average hostel with average bunk beds and facilities. Overpriced in my opinion for NYE but I guess the rest of the year is much cheaper. I would advise to only stay here if you’re not planning on spending a lot of time in the hostel facilities

This was mine and my friends first time staying in a hostel so we were quite nervous as to what to expect. We ended up really enjoying it! Everyone was super friendly and talkative, both the staff and other stayers. There were facilities to cook if we didn't fancy staying out too. Our stuff was super safe, the beds have lockers underneath that fit my big case in and each bunk bed had privacy with curtains. We'd definitely stay again.

Green Tortoise has the charm of independent, friendly backpacker-hostels that I enjoyed all over Europe. There aren't a lot of budget options in major US cities, especially for solo travellers, so I was really glad to have found this place. I rate it highly on location and value for money and I would definitely stay here again.
