Though we only spent one night in one of the cabins we would definitely return for a longer period:
- check-in and -out is very easy, the receptionist was kind and very helpful
- common areas (kitchen, showers, toilet, laundry, movie room etc) are clean and well-equipped
- the area is scenic with lots of program possibilities: walking, trekking, sailing, kayaking etc.
As we only had half a day, we took a round-trip boat and it was an unforgettable experience - the local staff also helps in organizing such programs if needed
Featuring free WiFi, Annies Nirvana Lodge- Golden Bay YHA offers accommodation in Takaka. Among the various facilities are barbecue facilities, as well as a garden.

Great location, friendly staff member, quirky decor
Situated in Marahau, Kanuka Ridge Lodge is a short drive to the beach, the cafes, restaurants and the start of the Abel Tasman National Park. Free unlimited WiFi and private parking.
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
One of the best hostels i have stayed in so far.
First of the staff is really helpfull and kind, felt right at home. The hostel is really nice, it has a big garden with hammocks, pool tables, a cinema, an inside living room and a fireplace where u can roast marshmallows every night.
The location is good aswell its on walking distance from the beach and the park and right next to the kayak hire and water taxi.
Dorms and beds were great aswell!
Great facilities, friendly and informed personell and within walking distance of Abel Tasman national park. They helped me organize activites and informed me where to go. They came and picked me up and dropped me back of i Kaiteriteri. The best hostel I stayed in during my NZ trip!
We stayed in the back packers dormitory at the Beach Camp. It was very well equipped and exceptionally clean and tidy. Suited our needs perfectly. Highly recommend this backpackers as one of the best we have ever stayed at. Great private outdoor area with large outdoor dining table. Kitchen had everything you need.
So far the best hostel I stayed in NZ! The owner as well as the staff is super friendly and extremely helpful - they always assure all the guests are doing well. We spontaneously decided to do a camping trip in the Abel Tasman and they provided us a tent and sleeping bags.
In case of bad weather they have lots of board games as well as a cinema and pool tables, nice indoor and outdoor common area.
Amazing facilities, very fun and sociable hostel. Comfy beds, lovely staff, great location, good for meeting people and learning about the area/finding out things to do in Abel Tasman. Would 100% recommend.
It's probably the best hostel I have ever been in. The staff were amazing, and the whole place was so cosy. Thanks, guys, for the fantastic experience and the good chats.
Great location very close to Abel Tasman NP. The style of the dorm rooms made out of shiping containers is unique. During the summer a great place to stay. There are even an in-house cinema and pool tables. The upper bunk beds are a bit high, but all of them have two outlets and two USB ports.
great location, close to the National park. lots of outdoor social space as well as indoor. some nights can buy burgers and chips from hostel - great portion sizes. friendly staff, great stay! travelling with kiwi experience bus and this was much better than the one they recommend.
