Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
Great welcome to Stewart Island. The hosts were very hospitable, let us check in early, took our luggage to the ferry and checked them in for us. Accomodation was fantastic. Great location.
Lovely self catering facilities. We enjoyed a pasta dish we prepared in the electric frying pan which worked out pretty well and was easy to clean. Enjoyed the location and we were able to let our ten year old walk to the four square on his own and Rakiura is the only place on earth that feels safe enough to do that.
It's a great location, right in the town of Oban. Everything in the town is walkable. The backpackers has everything you need to cook and eat your own food (dishes, pots, pans, kettles, stoves, ovens, etc) and lots of space in the kitchen area. It was very clean. People were friendly.

A great backpackers' hostel with friendly and helpful staff. Kitchen/Lounge area is spacious, well organised and very well equipped. Bedrooms are more standard with just bed and bedside table, but perfectly acceptable and clean. Location is very good, just a 5-10 min walk from the ferry, close to a good coffee shop - but then nothing is very far at Half Moon Bay!
Brilliant affordable accomodation. Lots of outside space to enjoy. Well equipped kitchen with all of the utensils and cleaning products you could need. Very clean. Comfortable beds. Quiet and respectful guests. Amazingly helpful staff. Best hostel I've ever stayed in!
We had a great time at Stewart Island Backpackers. I liked the overall layout of the hostel. Lounge/kitchen/bunkbed area separate from the private rooms was great! Kitchen fully equipped and enough space for everyone.
Our hosts were super friendly, and helpful! I really enjoyed the private kiwi-spotting tour!
