We stayed in traditional japanese style room with tatami mats on the floor. The room was very spacious, had closet for futons, but we used it also as closet to store our things. In the room we had small table with pillows, so it was also convenient to eat there.
It's very close by Yamanouchi train station and few restaurants are also around. If you're around, dont forget to visit onsen (also allowed with small tatooes) which is attached to the train station.
Featuring a hot spring bath and a terrace, Nozaru is a 7-minute drive from Yudanaka Station. It offers Japanese-style rooms, free WiFi at the lobby and a games room.

Honestly- I don’t know why this place gets such bad reviews! I stayed here one night and I had a very pleasant stay! I liked my room a lot, it was comfortable spacious and clean and I thought that the owners were very pleasant as well! The room I stayed in was with a shared bathroom. I though the bathroom was clean and I also stashed some food in the refrigerator and that was very clean as well! Of course the building is quite old so overall the place could use a little TLC. But it’s in a great location! The town is cute and quiet, with several onsens, temples and cute shops. But I do agree with every one else akin regards to the extra charges- especially the parking.

Everything you would like in a hostel. Amazing traditional house, good beds, clean and a very nice crowd. It has a Lawson very nearby. 10/10 would come again!
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
Great hotel with perfect balance between traditional and modern. The staff and service were out of this world amazing and so were the meals (breakfast and dinner) which were both included. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Great location, very close to station and bus stop to the snow monkeys. The arrival drink and the complementary Sake bar at night made it even more special. Thanks so much to the team at Hotel Tsubakino for the amazing stay!
Shimaya is in a great location, close to the train station, cafes and Lawson shop. The room was very comfortable and clean and the small balcony was great. The owner was very pleasant & helpful. He drove us to the entrance of the snow monkey park, which was very kind of him.
Wonderful hot baths, great location surrounded by restaurants and nature and a short trip to the monkey park. The best part was the owner who is super kind.
The hotel is somewhat modern and has a touch of the traditional onsen hostel which is neat and quiet. You can tell there are more foreign customers than the locals. The room is right in size and we enjoyed the Mountain View. The stay was comfortable and we had a good sleep (not all Tatami is comfy in my experiences). The onsen was always empty and we decided not to book the private pool as the public one is almost like a private (maybe it’s an off-peak season?)
Room was traditional and beautiful, great location to experience the onsens and the snow monkey park, with a helpful free drop off. We had breakfast and coffee in the restaurant and it was really nice. Staff were so helpful, especially the lady at breakfast :) One of our favourite experiences in Japan!
Great location, they collected us from the train station, and dropped us up to snow monkey park and collected us. Dropped us back to the train station when we were leaving
Great location opposite a ski lift and lunch location. Access to cheap lift tickets. Rooms were on the larger size for Japan and there was ski hire and storage downstairs. On site onsen and cafe/restaurant. Complimentary tea and coffee near reception. Dinner in the main restaurant was traditional and delicious. Staff were very helpful.
