Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
The hostel is excellent value for money. The host, Lee, was very welcoming and friendly, we really sensed he cared about the hostel and his guests. He even put up a university of st andrews flag for us. The communal area is well-stocked with kitchen equipment and board games, and the living room is very cosy. The bedroom was clean and pleasant despite having 3 sets of bunk beds in a relatively small room. The location is great for hiking around Loch Ericht. We were able to drop our bags off before check in.
Friendly, helpful and pragmatic owner. Prime highland hub location either travelling by car or train. I had a private bedroom but still was able to enjoy the old skool, youth hostel vibe. Nice to sit and talk with fellow travellers in de common facilties. I was travelling through but could have spent more days here to explore the area.
Lee went above and beyond to make our stay at Dalwhinnie amazing. He has thought of everything and has created one of the best hostel I’ve ever been to. It exceeded all our expectations and was a fantastic, comfy stop on our journey across Scotland! We will be back!
Great location and brilliant for a hostel. The most comfortable hostel beds I have ever slept on. Lounge and other facilities were also great and the owner has a small shop with food if you forget to bring something to cook.
A lovely warm, well tended fire and nice atmosphere with good hostel facilities. Safe place provided to store our bikes.
