Batu Kapal is a magical place, surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle of Bukit Lawang. The staff is wonderful, they made us feel like we were at home. They helped us with everything and shared laughter, music and card games with us. We felt like we took home not only the experience, but also having met good friends.
Also around our room we were able to see Thomas leafs, different types of macaques (in fact one day they were on our balcony) and on the last day an orangutan!
We also had the opportunity to do the 3-day trek, sleeping two nights in the jungle, which was another unforgettable experience and we would like to highlight our guide Jipur, who was great and informed us about the jungle and the species that inhabit it, and the cook Mr. Black, who despite being in the jungle, made us delicious and abundant meals.
It has truly been an unforgettable experience and, although we know it is difficult, we would love to revisit this wonderful place and its people, Bagus, Jipur and the rest of the team.

Very personal. Got to know all of the staff and they were so helpful with organising activities, food and cars for us. Had the greatest time at this accommodation. Rooms were comfortable and the fan was a great touch on the hot days. I also loved the dog and cat on property, they were adorable!!

I had a wonderful time at Charly and Jimmy's Homestay! They were incredibly kind and friendly, always making sure I had everything I needed. It felt like staying with family. They were available whenever I had questions or needed help.
The room was small but cozy, and the balcony was amazing. It had a hammock and offered a beautiful view of the river and the jungle. Jimmy was so helpful, showing me the best spots to swim and even lending me a tube to float down the river.
I highly recommend staying here if you want a relaxing and personal experience!

This homestay was simple, but very clean and is situated directly at the entrance to Bukit Lawang. In the night you can here the rain on the roof for a good sleep and in the morning you can see some macaque monkeys in the trees playing with each other. Good and cheap restaurants are very near as well as a good laundry. We booked a 3 days 2 nights jungle tour at this homestay to a reasonable price and this tour was fantastic. Tommie, our guide, chose a sporty but quiet route for us where only a few other people were around. He is very friendly and is very skilled in finding the different monkey types. He knows the jungle very well. During the trip we were able to see nearly all monkey types that live in the national park. Because of the route he chose, we even had the opportunity to observe an orang-utan mother with its newborn in the trees just by ourselves for a long time.The food our porter cooked for us tasted amazing with a lot of fruit and variety.
All in all we liked our stay here a lot and with the owner and his team we had the feeling to buy a trip with people who care for the jungle and its animals.

What a gem of a place and people! It is So special and the team of people are full of heart, soul and fun with smiles at the ready. You don’t need to go trekking and sleep under plastic to experience being in the jungle as you can be in amongst it at Back to Nature swimming in the river and watching for wildlife. We saw lots of Thomas’s Leaf Monkeys, silver monkeys and white handed Gibbons in the time we were there
We came for 3 nights, but stayed for 5 and only reluctantly left. Noval and Yanta did everything they could and more to make our stay so memorable from cooking special meal requests, Carrying our bags on the 2km walk in from Bukit Luwang, getting medicine in the village, climbing for coconuts and paddling us out on the “jungle taxi” (tyre tubes lashed together to make a raft) and carrying our bags all the way up the 300 steps to On the Rocks.
If you want a unique rustic escape away from it all and a lovely vibe with such sincere, good people and a beautiful environment this is your place! It was certainly ours and we didn’t miss anything from a more urban environment

Jay is a great host. He can also arrange transport from and to Medan (airport), and excursions to the jungle (e.g. 2 day jungle tour with sleeping in the jungle).

We had two great guides Kella and young Obi, who watched over us. Beautyfull nature, many animals and of course orangutans, 10m away from you or over you - unforgetable. We had an awesome stay at Sama Sama Homestay. The owners are so welcoming, kind and friendly, so we directly felt comfortable. The brewed us delicious coffee each day and were always up for some nice and interesting smalltalk. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and we especially liked the balcony area to take some coffee and relax. We recommend a stay here!!
Arif is a very friendly host. Great room, directly in nature. Keep in mind that the homestay is quite far away, especially when you have heavy luggage. But they offer a porter service.
Alek is the most helpful homestay host we have had. He managed to sort out our 3D2N trek the night before we wanted to go and he lent us his bike to travel to an ATM. The location is ideal and lots of nice places to eat right outside. Well worth the price!!

Jhonny is a great host who checks in with you every chance he gets. Together with our guide, he and the staff helped us throw a surprise party for our moms birthday, which was so much fun. The cabins are cute and the beds are comfortable, with musquito nets.They can also help you with booking jungle trekkings. We did a half day trek and were lucky to have Eddy as a guide. Eddy is very friendly, really looked out for our safety in the jungle, but mostly, he just really made our trekking feel like a jungle party.
I hope to visit again someday.
