Each room at Casa Ruy Lopez has attractive traditional décor. There is air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. After a long rainy drive from Lisbon we arrived at this quiet (even during the Carnaval weekend) and perfectly located hotel (within a 5 minute walk you’re in the main plaza). The small hotel does not have parking but we easily parked nearby. We had a warm welcome by the nice girl at reception desk who was very helpful providing us with a map and hints and tips on where to go. Our room was number six, with a balcony overlooking the small street. The room just like all the hotel spaces was extremely clean, spacious and equipped with AC. Throughout Casa Ruy Lopez the attention to detail goes above and beyond the decoration (that we loved): there are complimentary small water bottles at room temperature and in mini fridges in common areas or if you prefer you can make different types of tea (there’s an electrical kettle), or you can have water with lemon. Breakfast was very good, a large variety of products including homemade cakes and jams, and the nice and helpful staff always asks if you’d also like toast or anything else. The location is perfect making it a great base for exploring the area (don’t miss Mina de la Jayona, Virgen del Ara and the roman ruins of Regina Turdulorum if you can). The small entrance of Casa Ruy Lopez is only a clue for what it hides inside: a delightful place to stay. Would certainly return and recommend it!

Many different types of rooms available---I had a big double with Queen bed but they have quadruples, family rooms, etc. I would never stay anywhere else if/when I come to Merida again. Was even sorry to leave!

There is a small, cosy lounge as well as 2 attractive patios filled with flowers. Hostal Emeritae also has machines selling drinks and snacks. Good size room, bed was very comfortable and nice big window. Location was ideal to walk the sites of Roman ruins. Staff were very helpful in calling ahead to book other accommodations along the VDLP. Location close to many restaurants and was quiet at night. Would stay here again. Wonderful change for a peregrino.

I would totally recommend this hostel! I was nervous because it was my first time travelling alone as a sceptical young women and I was absolutely feeling safe and welcomed the whole time. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hostel is only 5 min away from the city centre, where all the monuments are. 10 out of 10!
