Quirky but nice place to stay. Supermarket right across the street had great meats and other items to cook in the hostel. We prepared a nice spaghetti with meatball in the kitchen as it was a Sunday and everything was closed. The lady who checked us in was very kind and personable, and she went out of her way to explain places to shop and idiosyncrasies of the property. Right on the Beach and steps from El Camino!

- Pedro, Isabel and the kids are the most nicest host, you could imagine. On our arrival there were fresh fruits in the fridge and the family brought us two "Welcome beers" and a cake. - The communication with the host was super, always available and sometimes Pedro even had a few recommendations what events are going on in town. - The pool was always clean and had a nice, chilly temperature. We got extra towels for the pool and beach. There were two canvas chairs for us to relax at the pool. - The furniture, kitchen and bathroom felt brand new and every kitchen gadget was working perfectly fine. - The route to the Sea was around 5 min per feet with a lot of nice little restaurants on the way/at the beach. A lot of mini mercados and supermarkets are just around the corner. - The apartment and neighborhood are mainly quiet and you can perfectly rest your mind. - A little TV with the whole tv program. - Rain shower

I stayed here while walking the Camino Portuguese. It was very convenient for the route.The room was clean. We especially liked the air conditioning. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of dishes, plates, glasses and utensils. The shower was very good and the towels big.

As a solo. traveller on a budget I thought the hotel offered excellent value. For those walking the Camino it is only five minutes off the trail and easy to find. The metro is also only 5 minutes making it a great location if you want an inexpensive way to Porto or the Airport. The husband and wife ( I’m assuming married) were genuinely kind and the room was comfortable and spotless. There is also an excellent supermarket right next door. For the price, this nice little hotel definitely deserves a 10!

After a long and rainy day on the Camino, this was exactly what we needed and a very nice surprise in a small village like São Pedro de Rates: An (impeccably) clean and cozy room with nice decoration, a hot shower, and a very comfortable bed (feeling like at home :-); the small heating was already on when we arrived. And a stamp for the Credencial de Peregrino was of course also available. Excellent place to rest and get new energy for the next day. The owner Pedro was very nice, he also helped us to choose the company for luggage transportation (Top Santiago, very reliable, also serving private accommodations). The self-check-in was very easy, you get instructions on the day of check-in, and the communication via WhatsApp excellent, we always got an answer within a few minutes. As it was Easter Monday everything was closed, but you can always get some basic food at the nearby petrol station. For breakfast on the next day, we very recommend the café/bakery Padaria Nova. We had a very pleasant stay at Casa da Vila Guest House and can highly recommend it to other travelers.

The owner was really friendly and lives nearby, used to be his family home and now it’s this pension. They left us a bottle of water in the room which was really kind. It’s a really quiet area, but not far from the town
