Junko and Yuji have been excellent hosts and made my stay super welcome! The property is spacious & clean, and I had the entire upstairs to myself that includes a bedroom, separate living room, and private bathroom.
They are very friendly and made sure I'm comfortable and well accommodated, and the stay includes a free pick-up/drop off service from the ferry across Onomichi JR station. I would also highly recommend the optional breakfast which was delicious with local fresh bread.
I would highly recommend this for visitors riding the Shimanami Kaido. For me, I took the train to Onomichi JR in the afternoon, stayed overnight here and then was fresh & ready for my ride first thing in the morning. I would love to do the Kaido again in the reverse direction and this would be a perfect spot for the endpoint and I would definitely stay here again.

Sayomi was such a kind and generous host. The food she cooked was amazing (and plentiful) and we enjoyed staying in a traditional Japanese house. Sayomi also helped us to arrange the transport. We loved the massage chair.

Good location close to the station and port.
Our host Hiro was friendly and offered for us to leave our bags while we did the shimanami kaido cycle trail.

Among the hundred of hostels I have been to, I would say this has been one of the best. The dormitory is absolutely great, amazing light inside, and confortable couch area in front of the beds. I slept very well, and the space inside the cabin bed is very easy and nice to use. Also, I loved the commun room downstairs, very nice decoration and also confortable. At last, the izakaya on 1F is amazing, the drinks are good and the food great ! A must try !

Great location in the centre of the town. Our host Leo was helpful and very welcoming. He gave us top tips on local restaurants and a map of the town with recommendations of places to visit. The room was clean and very comfortable. The shared shower and bathroom also excellent with everything you could need.

I arrived in Onomichi & went to the cat temple as I paid via booking.com to stay at the Japanese Tea Ceremony hostel in Cat Alley. Check in was at 16.00 but by 17.00 nobody had turned up at the locked gate. When I went to use WiFi at the cafe in cat temple, staff told me that the tea ceremony hostel was known for scamming people so DO NOT BOOK that hostel.
Luckily the above hostel was available and I can highly recommend it and I loved Onomichi.

I really enjoyed staying at this guesthouse it is super clean. The share space and the bed are really cosy (especilly the chairs for the share space ! ).
N.B. : it would be great to add a small dustbin for the shower (it would be easier to throw away our hairs etc...)
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
The building had an antique and rustic feel to it, and we thought the design and use of space was really smart and creative. The indoor and outdoor lounge spaces for guests were very cozy and the host was kind to tell us more about the concept behind the guesthouse and give us recommendations for the area. Onomichi is so lovely, we easily could have stayed another day! Our room was very comfortable and spacious too.
It was nice that we were able to store our bags early (before check-in) at the café in front of the guest house. And our bags were transferred to the guesthouse.
Spacious common lounge area on the ground floor.
Great host, gave us a whole series of recommendations on nearby restaurants and attractions. Also let us into the property early which was much appreciated as it was raining cats and dogs outside and we were on bikes. Supplied toiletries were above and beyond expectation
Wonderful guest house. A lot of thought has been put into the design of this charming property. I loved the manga and books surrounding the bunk beds. It is ideally located in the main shopping arcade, close to everything. The owner was very friendly and helpful and gave me a useful map to do the Temple Walk. Will definitely stay here again.
The location was perfect, right in the middle of a quaint shopping district where people sold handmade items. The guest house itself was lovely and provided lots of maps. The common room was homey and the kitchen was set up in an organized way.
Very kind owner who welcomed us in this nice little guest house, in the charming town of Setoda. The room and the shared spaces were clean, well equipped, the bed was comfortable and the location was nice.
Bonus point for the cute cat !
Thank you for your hospitality and advice on places to visit !
The hostel is right in front of a quiet beach, in a very calm neighborhood. You can hear the waves at night, the birds in the morning, pet the local cat or even sheep. The common space is big and comfortable. The host is really nice, and we were very grateful when she gave us a ride. (the bike location center or supermarkets are a 45 min walk, add 5 min for the ferry to go to Onomichi centre). The traditional japanese room is quite big, with view on the sea.
If you have a car this is a perfect place to stay. 100% would come again!
