We stayed here during our stay in Kyoto. The house is old, made of some wood which smells great. The beds are very comfortable to sleep in. The upstairs has a shower and the downstairs has a bathtub and a garden. The house was very clean and in a quiet neighbourhood, close to a station so mobility is also good. Kayoko is a wonderful hostess, she prepared a full and delicious Japanese breakfast for us every day and in the afternoons she left us sweets and tea, as well as writing cute little notes explaining the dishes. She also speaks very good English so we could communicate easily and get personal recommendations of places to visit in the city. We will definitely stay there again when we go back to Kyoto ^^.

I'm so sad we only stayed here one night. The hosts were so nice and made everything feel easy while we were there. We just needed one more night in Kyoto and this place was so much better than the first place we spent most of our time. The room was small, but just what we needed. There was good tea and when we realized we had missed printing a ticket that required a hard copy they printed it for us quickly and made sure we had it right away. I loved the breakfast here. It was a nice mix of things and they let us sit in the larger room since no one was staying in it when we were there. We will for sure try to make it back to this location when we make it out to Japan again!

The tatami + floor heating + Japanese floor mat is so comfortable even in winter! I really enjoy the shared bathing. (You still bath privately, no worry.)

Perfect location. This was such a cool hotel and lots of details were meticulously chosen for the vibe. The staff was helpful and friendly. They downplayed their English abilities when asked, but their English was excellent. There is a laundry on site which can be helpful for packing light. The room was spacious, maybe around a standard US room size, with a spacious shower. There is a little outdoor cafe right outside and this hotel is just steps away from many historic streets. This hotel was truly unique.
