The location is amazing. Could walk just about everywhere in under 20 minutes. Bus stop is a minute away. The owner couple is very helpful. Gave me recommendations to visit places and timings, no curfew. I was able to enjoy Danjo Garan, Daimon gate in a brilliant night view. Walking the streets at night without any rush to head back was priceless. Okunoin is pure peace at night. I loved the peaceful energy and silent, happy vibes of the guesthouse itself. They made an amazing breakfast considering I am a vegetarian. Felt like home. I'd definitely book again whenever I am back in Koyasan.

We thought we might’ve missed out by not staying at a temple (like i did the last time i visited koyasan) but i can’t even BEGIN to describe how much better this was!! You can still experience the monks, the ceremonies, the food, and the temples without staying at a temple and all for a fraction of the cost! On top of that, our host ryochi was so incredible and hospitable!! As soon as we arrived he helped us cater a custom koyasan experience and made delicious meals at the guest house! The spaces were stylish and incredibly clean and we loved the community space where you could meet other travellers over tea. We really wish we had time to stay longer. Ryochi’s space makes it easy to feel at home in koyasan.

A Buddhist temple lodging accommodation, 高野山 宿坊 熊谷寺 -Koyasan Shukubo Kumagaiji- lies amid mountains in the sacred Koyasan area. It features classic Japanese architecture and a tranquil atmosphere, adjoining a temple built in 837. The property serves traditional vegetarian meals.

Dinner 5:30pm and breakfast 7am are early which suited us as we were doing the Kumano Kodo trail. The meals were delicious and the onsen very comfortable. Very close to the cemetery for a night time stroll after dinner.

Tommy the host was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and spacious enough for a budget guesthouse option. The location was great, easy to get to via the bus that travels between the cab car station.

Great hosts, good location, very clean and comfortable. Lucky to have their restaurant on site for dinner - one of nicest meals we had in Japan - that is, home cooked by Guest House owner, an outstanding chef.

Very friendly and accommodating hosts! The guest house was at a great location (very close to the bus stop and a convenience store) and the family room was very spacious and clean. Would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it if you are not planning to do a temple stay at Koyasan! I also highly recommend visiting the cafe - great croissants and drinks!

Great location right in the heart of koyasan town. Very convenient to walk to any attractions nearby. Room facilities are up to bar with some 2-3 star hotel I have been to. Tommy is a super friendly host. He recommends a lot of great local experiences from places to have dinner to different trekking trails and temple rituals you can attend for free. Tommy and his wife run a cafe next door and it’s open from 8am which is a rare thing in koyasan (most shops open at 11am). You get a big discount if you stay at Tommy guest house too ❤️

Tommy Guest House is one of the few guesthouses in Koyasan and certainly the best. Our room was very well equipped as described and quite big. Everything was extremely clean, there were clean towels, new water and tea on the second day. The guesthouse is just a few steps away from the bus stop in the center of Koyasan. Tommy is such a warm and courteous host. The contact before our stay was always quick and super nice. A clear recommendation!

A wonderful Guesthouse in a quieter part of Koyasan but within easy walking distance to all the major attractions. Extremely clean and tidy with large shared living spaces. Conveniently located close to the only Family Mart in town, a bus stop and a little park. Nori, the host, is most helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. I highly recommend Hachi Hachi.

We love our stay at Guest House Suzumeno Kakurembo! Our hosts were so friendly, funny and welcoming! Our room was spotless clean(!), spacious and super cosy! Heating is available (it can get really cold in Koyasan at night) and we also had a water dispenser (hot/cold) in our room which was soo convenient! They also have a restaurant with amazing food! We recommend this guesthouse! Thank you so much for your hospitality!
