The Orchards Guest Suite, hotel in Sidmouth

We enjoyed everything about this stay, hosted by lovely Kate. A cosy cottage addition to the main house, with window door opening on to a country lane (short walk to pub). Excellent bathroom, tea coffee facilities. The breakfast the next morning was fabulous. Delivered by Kate, in a cute wicker basket laden with goodies. Croissants, home made jams, cereals, yogurts, fresh orange juice. Would definitely stay again.

A great location, a short distance away from Sidmouth town centre. Very quiet during the evening and night. The room was larger than we anticipated which was a lovely surprise. Tea, coffe and chocolate facilities provided and a small fridge in the room. Wine glasses available just outside the room. There was free WI-fi which worked perfectly. Liz was an excellent host and we had the best cooked breakfast that we have had for many years, with quality produce. Absolutely delicious. Loved the stay and would recommend without doubt.

Everything about this guest house was exceptional. The rooms were spotlessly clean. They had superb facilities and were decorated beautifully. Andy and Sarah were great hosts who had many tips about where to go, best places to eat, parking, and many more useful tips. The breakfast was also beautifully cooked and was always delivered with a happy and warm greeting. The property is about a 10 minute walk to the seafront, has great parking and is close to the lovely Byes park.

Sarah and Andy are great hosts. Room spotless. Freshly cooked breakfast plus selection of fruit, cereals, etc. Property 3 to 400 yds away from bustling town centre. Great location and eateries nearby. Recommend The Anchor and The Volunteer, popular so booking definitely advised.

Excellent hotel in great location with great hosts. Rooms comfortable and good sized bathrooms. Food at the hotel at both dinner and breakfast was really good using good quality ingredients. An impressive buffet spread at breakfast. We were made very welcome by Stephen and Sarah and they are first class hosts, making sure that we had everything that we needed. A place to return to.

I think if I drew up a description of a perfectly run English guest house, Canterbury House would tick every box. The room was clean, comfortable and warm (we were there in March). Our hosts were charming, helpful without being pushy and provided the best breakfast I've ever had. I'm torn between giving the highest possible recommendation and wanting to downplay the excellence in case too many people read this. What if they're full next time I try to book...

Easy unfussy arrival and property takeover. Owners left us to it and very quiet, relaxed start to a lovely break away. Property has everything needed and was spotlessly clean. We were upgraded for free the larger Cottage The Shippen. Our Dogs had a ball playing in the meadow, the private Garden and were free. Will be back here for sure, thanks Rosie & Andy, great hosts.
