Carmel Farm is a beautiful property and Barbara and Leo couldn't have been more welcoming and accomodating. They took my 13 year old nephew out at the crack of dawn to feed the calves and take part in the morning chores on the farm - he had an incredible time and hasn't stopped talking about it since! We were made to feel so welcome and enjoyed great chats over a glass of wine in the evening and over the beautiful breakfast Barabara prepared for us in the morning. Would recommend a visit to anyone!

Hubby & I made a last-minute decision to stay at Mels Retreat, we loved our time together in such a magical spot, we didn't realize how busy we had been until we stopped for "Air" at Mels. Everything was thought of, personal touches & gifts, "no-one really does well" anymore... but she did. The location is epic, and the amenities were amazing. The Spa and Sauna are game changers. Thank you, Mel, and to your family for sharing your piece of heaven ❤️

Clean tidy great location, nicely appointed room (no dish clothes to owner)
As families grow in size, so too do the needs of a family holiday. That’s why family hotels are set up to cater for all ages, from toddlers and kids to teens and adults. Typically, you can expect restaurants with kids’ menus, games rooms, fitness centres and a pool area where children can play and parents can relax.
We really enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff and their customer service. We were there for my daughters wedding and the staff went out of their way to make the function amazing. They were all friendly and really made the wedding that much better with their service. Thank you everyone.
convenient since we could go to our function and not have to worry about driving home. The beds were very comfortable. It also put us an hour closer to where we had to head to on Sunday AM. The restaurant next door has wonderful food.
Loved being able to charge our EV overnight. The restaurant is great fun. The room is well appointed and great value. It's no fuss and the complimentary breakfast was appreciated. We've stayed before and we'll stay again.
Loved the theme with the owl and beautiful decor throughout. The breakfast room/communal area are a great asset, and we enjoyed breakfast (all we needed for a nice continental breakfast was provided) in the lovely outside space. Very handy to have the restaurant/bar with great food next door too. Rooms/bathrooms were very clean with a connecting door (we travelled as a family). Beds were very comfortable. Great location to explore Waitomo. We‘ll certainly be back next time we‘re in the area.
It is "old style" New Zealand accommodation, like I remember in the 60's as a child. Lovely location and a surprising guest lounge with a kitchen and comfy couches and a beautiful garden out through the doors. Great eatery/bar attached.
