Tsukaya Ryokan is a accommodation with a history of over 300 years. All rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors.

Guests can enjoy meals and sake rice wine in a private dining room, or have a soak in the hot spring bath on site, boasting free flowing spring water retrieved directly from the spring source.

Of all the hotels and ryokans I stayed at during my two weeks traveling Japan, the night at Tsukasaya Ryokan was by far my favorite. Mrs. Shoji personally came out and greeted me at my taxi. From that moment onward, I felt as if I was receiving an experience personalized just for me. After showing me to my room, Mrs. Shoji informed me of several local attractions (parks, shrines, temples, etc.) that were lovely to visit prior to returning for dinner. Every moment of the stay felt thoughtfully crafted and authentic. The food was delicious, containing many dishes that I had never before experienced. The onsen, while small and enclosed, was at just the right temperature and left my skin feeling the best it has in years. The design of the structure was charming and authentic (as best that a foreigner like myself can judge). The staff were friendly and accommodating.

A 350 year old temple inn, Shukubo Daishinbo offers Japanese-style accommodation, a large public bath and free Wi-Fi. Featuring a garden and free parking, the property lies surrounded by nature. Guests can witness Buddhist prayers.

I would give 11 to this place if I could, I could even give 100. The hospitality at Daishinbo is incredible. Also, if you stay more than one day, a different menu will be prepared for you every meal, even if that means preparing that menu just for you.

We were staying in one of the suites and it was sensational. We were told the room had been redone about a year ago and the room was luxurious and very spacious. We had our own private onsen which was amazing and so beautiful particularly when it was snowing. The communal area was also quite new (the photos don’t reflect the update). Watching the koi fish from this area was very relaxing. The public baths were also very clean and relaxing. The staff were very professional and kind. There was only one staff member who spoke English but everyone made us feel so welcome and we used a translating app when we needed to. I would definitely recommend staying here. I can’t speak highly enough about how much we enjoyed our time here.

Very clean, friendly staff, delicious food, accommodating for children. While English is not spoken there they went above and beyond using translator apps to tell us about the meals. A family-run place, Tamokan is basic but excellently located for those interested in visiting Mt.Haguro. The food was excellent, and we were amazed by their hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, and the owner was super helpful, too. The couple spoke English, there was no language barrier, and everything was smooth.

The peaceful atmosphere of the whole place. The meals are so coordinate and precise. Very refine. At the arrival and departure, there is such courtesy. It feels like a VIP arriving to the hotel, but when they come out to send me off, it feels like a family member is departing.

Breakfast and dinner, both were great and included in the price. Location was convenient for going to Dewa Sanzan mountains. The bath has an ofuro which is appreciated after a day in the mountain. The family running the accommodation is very attentive and the morning ritual was unique.
