Our host, Fuji-san, was impeccable. She stayed up for us (late flight and check-in) and took the trouble to explain everything to us. Excellent breakfast with a nice view. Overall, a homely and unique local experience that we really enjoyed.

Great host. We loved that she told us about the local food we were eating, and we got to participate in making some to the breakfast and dinner. It was small enough that all visitors could eat together and so we got to meet people from other places. We loved the casualness of the place.

Remote rural area, 30 minutes from Hakunodate. Easily accessible if you have a car. Family run accommodation. Welcoming family. We had the dinner and breakfast - elaborate meals and a great opportunity to eat home cooked traditional Japanese meals. Kids even tried the sea snails! Rooms were clean and tidy. Onsen was available for private use.

Set in a beautiful location, loved the onsen and having easy access to the restaurant for meals was great. Enjoyed our visit to the art village and fun activities for kids on a rainy day. Welcoming foyer and staff and appreciated the decorations for the Hanabata festival. Reasonable proximity to Kakunodate. We had a car so great place for us to stay and see the local sights.

I had a great time. The house is beautiful and well located to visit Kakunodate. The hostess is very kind. The meals, made with local ingrédients, were delicious. It was fun to bake bread in the fireplace for breakfast.

Very welcoming family and relaxing place to stay. AMAZING FOOD--SO DELICIOUS! Helpful with information about buses in the area and getting to ski area. Appreciated the big fluffy comforters on the beds and the HOT hot spring bath. Bath area was a bit dark, but wonderful after a day of skiing! Location is a couple minutes walk from bus stop that will take you ski area or into town/station--very convenient.

Fantastic value for money. The room was bigger than expected and the staff were brilliant. Onsen was decent and the breakfast was fantastic. The small children’s play area was a nice touch, not much but a few squashy shapes and a slide provides a welcome distraction for children.

We really enjoyed our stay at Nishi no Ie! It was a great experience to stay in a historic farmhouse, and we had fun making our dinner and breakfast on the irori hearth. Makito and his family were very sweet and hospitable.
