Amazing food even though some of the textures were alien to us. The staff was always very nice and helpful. We loved the fact that we could go to the onsen together any time without extra payment.

A very traditional ryokan - a unique, authentic experience. Very friendly staff and excellent food. Service excellent, a real art of plate decoration. Onsen was pleasant, not crowded. The water is about 41 degrees. A must visit in Japan!

Subete ga kakubetsu de shita! The staff were so accommodating even with a language barrier. The food was excellent and presented beautifully! The rooms are spacious and a lovely change from the norm. There is a shuttle run from the hotel to Yudanaka station which is very handy. どうもありがとうございます。

Loved the cultural food experience , we had one breakfast and a dinner. Hostess is extremely kind and we were taken to station and monkey park by hosts van.

Shibu Hotel, hotel in Nakano

Offering a free-use reservable hot-spring bath, shared indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, and traditional multi-course dinners with Shinshu beef, Shibu Hotel is 8 minutes from Yudanaka Train Station...

The location was good for us as we wanted to stay in an onsen town. The owners are absolutely wonderful. We were very kindly given a lift to the monkey park and to a lovely spot to take some pictures and were really looked after during our stay. We had one Japanese style dinner and breakfast during our two night stay. It was delicious with real attention to detail and was beautifully presented. All the staff were lovely and warm. You are given a 'master' key to the nine different onsens in town to use at your leisure (during opening hours)

Sakaeya, hotel in Nakano

Located in the centre of Shibu hot-spring area and a 5-minute drive from Yudanaka Train Station, Sakaeya offers Japanese-style accommodations.

Amazing place. We went in July, which was offseason for the area but would totally recommend both the town and this ryokan. Service and food were outstanding - the kaiseki dinner was our favourite meal in Japan. Shibu is an onsen town so there are lots of public baths. Fun to visit, but the onsen at Sakaeya was better - beautiful and even featured an outdoor pool. The ryokan is close to the snow monkey park which was a real highlight even in July. Add this place to your Japan itinerary!

Hosts were delightful: very friendly and helpful, driving us up to the monkey park twice (on the first trip the monkeys had retreated into the hills). Also enjoyed the on site onsens.
