Set in Takayama and only 26 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village, むかしの暮らし体験ー古民家の宿 みのり家 offers accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking. The 4-star bed and breakfast features quiet street views and is 25 km from Shirakawago. The property is non-smoking and is situated 27 km from Takayama Station.

Both this place and the hosts are exceptional. You get a real feeling for the history of the home and the culture of people in the quieter rural areas in the mountains. Staying with this warm, welcoming family was the most wholesome experience, which brought us real joy even though we only stayed one night. The food was incredible, and their hospitality was unmatched.

Featuring traditional Japanese architecture, Ryokan Murayama offers a hot spring bath, free WiFi and free parking. JR Takayama Station is just 2 km from the property. Guests can take a free 2-way shuttle service from the bus terminal running until 17:30 daily when requested upon arrival.

Location is excellent for the purpose of visiting Hida no Sato (Folk Village) and other places in Takyama; private shuttle service makes it practical for visiting Shirakawa-go as well. The lodging itself is charming - the experience of staying at a proper traditional ryokan with tatami floor, paper doors and futon beds is well worth the (very reasonable) price. Finally, I must recommend that guests also attend the proposed in-house meals - breakfast and dining experiences - because the food is superb and the service is impeccable and friendly. Highlight of my trip.
