Located just 1.2 km from Matsumoto Station, Guesthouse Azumaya provides accommodation in Matsumoto with access to a garden, a shared lounge, as well as a housekeeping service. Among the facilities at this property are a shared kitchen and luggage storage space, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The guest house features family rooms.

Guesthouse Azumaya has been the best guesthouse I've stayed in on my trip through Japan. The guesthouse is a very traditional Japanese building which perfectly combines traditional architecture with modern comfort. It has 10 beds in total, which creates a very home-like atmosphere. The place is perfect for both solo travelers as well as groups, because it's the ideal place to meet people and make new friends. The host Shotaro is super friendly, and introduced me to the other guests that were momentarily staying in his guest house. Immediately after entering, I felt at home and was welcomed by a very inviting and warm atmosphere. He gives the best recommendations, and provides his guests with warm tea and lovely authentic Japanese snacks. He is always available, and makes an utmost effort to improve the stay in Matsumoto for his guests. The facilities were more than sufficient; everything I needed for my stay was included. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided, towels are rentable for only 100 yen and there is even a washing machine available for your laundry needs. Guesthouse Azumaya is centrally located and is just a 10-minute walk away from the famed Matsumoto Castle. I personally loved everything about my stay, and would recommend everyone to stay at Guesthouse Azumaya in Matsumoto.

Boasting indoor/outdoor hot spring baths, Keiryu-so Shiorie offers a traditional Japanese accommodation. Kamikochi Highland can be reached via a 20-minute bus ride from Sawando Bus Terminal, a 5-minute walk away. Shinshimashima Train Station is a 40-minute bus ride from the ryokan.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, everything was perfect and I can't think of one thing that we would have changed. The service from the staff was definitely the highlight, but the food, the room and the onsen were outstanding. It's a short busride to Kamikochi bridge where the hiking is beautiful.

I absolutely loved my stay. The house was clean and my room was very comfortable. The common area was also very tidy and nice; I had a fun evening with a Japanese family who was spending the night there. The host is amazing and very caring - he used a little device to communicate with me in my native language, and at some point he even offered to drive me to a sento (which would have been a 30min walk). 5 stars!

Our host was very warm & welcoming and despite us not being able to speak Japanese, he patiently communicated with us via a translator. Our room was a lovely traditional style room and it fit my family snugly. The location is fabulous being an easy walking distance to the castle, shops, restaurants, temples & funky streets. Highly recommend!

The hostel is in a great location and so quiet. The staff are really helpful, but best of all you could feel the history of the place. We are a family of four (two boys aged 13 & 11) and all thought it was the best hostel we’ve stayed at - friendlier, more fun and better than many hotels. Would stay there happily again.

Excellent and affordable (compared to other Ryokan) place to sleep. Lovely rooms, three baths (man, woman, family). Book dinner with them! Such delicious food, each dish a picture to the eye. The service explains in your own language what you are eating, using the phone. So cute. You can be picked up from the station if you consult with the Ryokan (is a bit too far away to walk). In the evening you can have a drink in a cute place inside opposite the reception, which is nice because there is not very much around.

A family-run guesthouse in Matsumato with a passionate and lovely owner couple. They do everything so that their guests feel welcome and comfortable. We enjoyed the Japanese style room (our baby son also loved it, too), had a nice bath in the Onsen and had most delicious home-made breakfasts. This is really value for money and it was the best place that we stayed at during our three weeks in Japan.

It seems to be a newly built hotel. We loved the traditional tatami interior and the overall cleanliness and simplicity of the rooms and public spaces. The service was slightly above the already-excellent Japanese standard. The men's onsen was very nice with one hot outdoor pool, one hot indoor, one cold indoor and a sauna room. The no-extra-charge late night ramen, ice cream and drinks were tasty and fun for our family. The location is quite close to the train station so you don't have to trek too far with your luggage.

We really enjoyed our one night stay, my kids didn’t want to leave! Perfect place for our family of four en route to Kamikochi. The host was very kind and the home was perfect. We had no issues. I think we will return in the fall for apple picking!

We booked the entire house for a family of 3 and the place is huge! Way bigger than we needed but great fun place to stay in. Nice funky vibe. The location proved perfect for an early morning photo shoot at Crow Castle (a minute’s stroll away) before it opened and the crowds descend!

Our family loved the big traditional tatami room and the fun bunk bed room. Super convenient location near Matsumoto castle and the train station with easy parking, as well as many good restaurants nearby. Everyone enjoyed having their own space, as well as lots of room in the kitchen and dining area. Kids loved the adorable cat notes throughout.
