Yamashiro Onsen Miyabi no Yado Kaga Hyakumangoku, hotel in Katayamazu

Yamashiro Onsen Miyabi no Yado Kaga Hyakumangoku offers a sauna and free private parking, and is within 31 km of Eiheiji Temple and 37 km of Phoenix Plaza.

We wanted an authentic Japanese experience during our first trip to Japan and found Yamashiro Onsen, Miyabi no Yado. From the moment of collection at the station the staff go out of their way to make you feel special. We were the only westerners during our stay which we loved. Yakutas, informal kimono are provided for wearing around the hotel and almost everyone wears one. We booked the included dinner and breakfast and it was exceptional. A lot of food and a wonderful opportunity for the adventurous to try new things. The meal has really been a highlight from an already pretty awesome holiday. We used an app called kuli kuli to translate menus and deepl for translating spoken messages to communicate with the staff. The vast majority only speak Japanese - as we are in Japan we had no issue with that and do not expect English to be spoken when we travel. That said check in was carried out in perfect English. The gardens are quite beautiful and we highly recommend spending a night or two here to relax. We did not explore the surrounding area or use the onsen as we have tattoos and did not have tattoo covers with us. This did not in anyway detract from our stay.

Shirasagiyu Tawaraya, hotel in Katayamazu

Set within 27 km of Eiheiji Temple and 31 km of Phoenix Plaza in Kaga, Shirasagiyu Tawaraya provides accommodation with seating area. This 3-star ryokan offers a lift and free shuttle service.

Our stay here was incredible. We had never been to Japan before, and the staff were so friendly and wlecoming we ended up extending our stay here by four days! The food was amazing - multi course meals for breakfast and dinner that were never the same two days in a row. The room was large and had everything we needed, including yakuta, slippers, tea and a beautiful view of the river. The onsite onsens are huge and overlook the river, and we were comfortable going there despite never having been to one before. There is lots to explore in the town within walking distance - shops, public baths, river walks, shrines and the laquerware museum. The staff are wonderful and we were well cared for. I hope we can go back one day.

Kohan-no-Yado Morimoto, hotel in Katayamazu

With a history of about 130 years, Kohan-no-Yado Morimoto offers spacious Japanese-style accommodations with views of Lake Shibayamagata.

We had an exciting, wonderful one-night stay at this beautiful and luxury Ryokan hotel, which is situated directly on the seaside with a marvelous sight on the sea and the Japanese Alps in the background, directly from our room and from the traditional hot Onsen bath (open the whole night!). The dinner and the breakfast in your private “séparée” were extraordinary, Japanese kitchen at it’s best, and the personal of this family-run Ryokan was extremely friendly and accommodating. They have also a bus shuttle from Kagaonsen railway station, which is a stop of the new Shinkansen prolongation opened only in March 2024
