I think I had the best room in the guesthouse, incredible views of Clew Bay, and glorious views to wake. up and to look out. The breakfast was exceptional, with more food than you could ever want. Sarah the host was very friendly and helpful. I was there to attend the Irish sea kayaking symposium held in Mulranny this year.

We arrived at Achill Island, with a toddler not yet two, and no car, not realising how sparse transport is on this remote island.
But host Deirdre was a godsend. She said she would be at the bus stop to pick us up on a cold, blustery day and she was. And realising our predicament, took us around the first day and offered to do so on subsequent days, even taking us to a pub.
Creevagh is a golden and compelling example of why you should always stay at family-run places. Unlike faceless, company-run hotels, where no attention is given to details, Creevagh was like staying in your own little bedroom in your own home, so snug and cosy it was and so thoughtfully laid out. And there was a warmth to it that only wonderful hosts can provide. Along with that, a kind of friendship that develops over a mere few days.
It's room-only accommodation, but there are places to find meals right around the corner and Deirdre leaves all kinds of snacks, cookies and biscuits along with the tea bags and coffee. The view out to sea was rather pretty. Beds were soft. Deirdre quickly organised a baby cot which was very helpful. I cannot tell you how comfortable we were.
Achill Island is one of those rare places on God's earth where life has its own unique flow, that modernity has not been able to mar. Thank you, Deirdre, we shall return some day soon.

My friend and I stayed at Bertra House for our Croagh Patrick hike, and it was truly unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, we felt so at home thanks to Margareth and John John’s exceptional hospitality. They went above and beyond to make us comfortable and safe, even offering us rides to and from Croagh Patrick when the weather turned rainy. Their thoughtfulness didn’t stop there; they even dried our clothes after the hike!
The location is perfect—just a five-minute walk to the beach and a quick ten-minute drive to the starting point of the hike. Bertra House itself is charming, cozy, and incredibly clean. It’s easily one of the safest and most welcoming places we’ve ever stayed, and we’re already looking forward to seeing Margareth and John John again next year! Highly recommended for anyone planning to explore the area.
As families grow in size, so too do the needs of a family holiday. That’s why family hotels are set up to cater for all ages, from toddlers and kids to teens and adults. Typically, you can expect restaurants with kids’ menus, games rooms, fitness centres and a pool area where children can play and parents can relax.
One of those B&Bs that makes you remember the experience they can offer of family home, great welcome, spotless, friendly, helpful, great bedroom and fab breakfast and one of the best sitting/lounge rooms.
It is in a lovely rural area. It was fun to stay in an old building with an interesting history. The guitar/singer in the bar on Wednesday was so good he should be famous. The owner is charming and the staff is friendly. The upstairs is a little noisy but nothing we didn’t expect from a building of that age. Close to many interesting sights and beaches.
The staff were very welcoming. The family room was much bigger than expected. The bathroom was very clean and private. There was a lovely short walk through the faerie trail which we enjoyed.
Love this cottage! Family of 4, two girls 10 & 12, and granny & grandad. Cottage has everything you need for a really comfortable stay. Location is perfect for exploring all parts of the island. Gillian couldn’t have been more accommodating.
Already looking forward to returning next year!
We loved the house the decor. The staff were friendly. The bar was so cozy. With beautiful open fire. The kids loved the pool table. The breakfast was delicious and the bedroom was spacious and comfortable and the location around achil is magical. We will definitely be back
Great size room, it’s a great spot in Achill. To be able to come and go freely was great.
I did love the kitchen that we could all access. It’s a hostel not really family place. the fairy trail we missed as it was closed and I was horrified they wanted to charge me to walk around a weed infested yard/forest area. My kids were burnt by nettles, no big deal but I was paying for this!
There was plenty of room for our family of 7, which included 2 teenagers, and a dog. All bedrooms were ensuite, plenty of towels, washing machine and tumble dryer which was a godsend. Great walks, lovely 5k run circuit, great beachs. Jerry was very friendly and accommodating. We all agree as a family we would definitely stay here again
Clean, modern, spacious with 4 large size bedrooms. Beautiful outdoor area which is enclosed and safe for young children. Ocean and mountain views were superb. Very relaxing family weekend away.
Lynchehans house is the perfect ‘unplugged’ family holiday. Like staying at granny’s house! Its super clean, has everything you need to cook meals plus Ann even left us essentials for tea and toast! There’s even bikes to use. We loved getting up in the morning and cycling on the Greenway to Achill Sound. Then spent our days on the islands beautiful beaches.
We loved that our kids could experience a simple family holiday like we would have had growing up. And we’ll certainly be back!
