Loved being in the countryside. 4 miles from York City. Spacious room with en suite. We had the Duke room. Great being able to cook our own meals in a huge well stocked kitchen. You need to take your own food although tea and coffee supplied.Plenty of frig and freezer space as well as a frig in our room.

It was so good to be in a historic building, in a great village. The Land Lady was so kind and helpful. Her dog was also so happy to see visitors. I also slept so well in this cosy accommodation.

Breakfast mediocre, everything sitting in its own grease and just warm not hot , queue for toast not a great experience and very poor menu night before, suppose to dine at 19.45 but was asked if we could dine at 5pm or 6 pm due to staff shortage , I ordered two starters as nothing appetising on the menu , I mean what even is ox cheek 😳and then felt rushed and there was a function on in the large function room, check in always seemed to be on the phone dealing with queries, did not really enjoy the break away sorry to say 😔

Brilliant location with great facilities. Staff couldn’t do enough. While staying at the hotel there was a medical emergency. Working for the ambulance service I offered a helping hand. I was extremely impressed by the coordination of help and support staff gave to the patients family.

A beautiful old building, it looks exactly what you want from a country hotel. The rooms are a good size, clean & well furnished. The gym is not huge but well equipped & fairly quiet. Nice pool & sauna/steam rooms, with no children allowed, which was a pleasant change. The onsite restaurant is recommended, well priced & while mainly "pub classics" the food is very good. It's handy for York, we went by car but were told a bus stop is nearby.
