L'Hôme du Monde, hotel in Bretteville-lʼOrgueilleuse

L’Hôme du Monde offers B&B accommodation in the centre of Bretteville-l’Orgueilleuse, a 15-minute drive from Caen and 30 minutes’ away from the D-day Landing Beaches.

One of the best places where I've ever spent a night (besides my own home, obviously =) ). The hosts are welcoming and caring, the rooms are stylish (a classy stylization is rarely seen today), and I would recommend this place to everyone passing their holidays in Normandy. Thank you for this night and the breakfast, Philip!

L'Ecurie Gourmande, hotel in Bretteville-lʼOrgueilleuse

Set in Thaon in the Lower Normandy Region, 13 km from Caen, L'Ecurie Gourmande boasts a terrace and views of the garden. Each room is fitted with a flat-screen TV.

The location was perfect for our purpose to visit the WWII beaches of Normandy and visit some museums and the American cemetery and memorial. Stefan and his wife, Marie were very cordial and welcoming. The breakfast was wonderful, with locally obtained fruits; peaches, apples, oranges and more. We were able to have fresh local eggs cooked to order as well as homemade apple juice, yogurt and jams. The jams for the croissants and crusty breads were amazing. We purchased two to bring back with us. Our king size bed was more comfortable than what we have at home and everything was clean and provided with a great deal of thought for decor and quality. Such a lovely place to return to after a long day of touring the area.

Monsieur Philippe is fabulous. Everything is so lovely and tastefully done. You can see, the family is very proud and takes great care of everything. The breakfast was superb! Home-made jams and yoghurt were wonderful. During our trip this was by far the best breakfast, which includes the pressed coffee. Bravo!

When we first came in, it was all a bit strange, but we quickly grew very fond of the rather strange interior. The host had some great stories to tell about all the individual art and pieces from all over Asia. The room itself had an Asian theme going on which was both a bit crazy but also great fun. Location was very nicely situated between Caen, Bayeux, Gold and Sword beaches. Great big shower!

We stayed six nights. The Château is well located i.e. nearly direct access to highway leading to main “must see places”. We had a comfortable and quiet room and enjoyed our daily breakfast and discussions with other hotel quests and - first of all - with the host. A lot of energy invested by the host & family to renovate this lovely château and preserve the heritage.

We felt privileged to stay in this 300 year old chateau, which is, after all, the family home of Franck. The building is very sympathetically decorated while respecting original features. My husband adored the recent addition of the hot tub and sauna and my teenagers made full use of the billiards table and trampoline so there is something for everyone. The weather was a little cool to try out the swimming pool but maybe next time..
