For us it was a short summer-end break of 5 nights rather than a one-night stay for Camino de Compostela (we did the camino earlier). But if you want to split the camino etape from St.Jean-Pied-de Porte to Roncevales through alternative route (not the Napoleon route), then we think this quiet village of Valcarlos is a very good stop. The mountain view is magnifique. We were lodged in Casa Karrikaburu, which I believe one of the 3 properties they manage. The building is newly renovated and in good quality. The owner and their staff in the restaurant are very sympathique, helpful and extremely friendly. Really enjoy our stay and will definitely return again when spending vacation in the region.

A quiet, rural hotel with no heirs or graces!
Basic breakfasts, restaurant menu food delicious and good value.
As families grow in size, so too do the needs of a family holiday. That’s why family hotels are set up to cater for all ages, from toddlers and kids to teens and adults. Typically, you can expect restaurants with kids’ menus, games rooms, fitness centres and a pool area where children can play and parents can relax.
Everything was perfect except one thing that I will describe below. There is a washing machine (4 EUR), dryer (4 EUR, you can use it in more people), hand washing area, outside terrace, room for drying your stuff, kicthen, coffee machine (1 EUR), dining room, just everything that pilgrims and hikers need. Everything is very clean. You need your own sleeping bag or liner, otherwise you can ask for linen for additional cost.
This place was pristine clean. We were 3 family members in a room for four, which worked out well. The showers and toilets were very clean. We were able to wash our clothes and get them dried out the back. The breakfast (€5) was good - enough to get us on the road again.
