Pleasant accommodation near the station. The owner insisted on transporting us because it was raining, he also arranged a reservation for us at the camp. He also provided plenty of information for restaurants and grocery stores in the area.
Great place to start for Kumano Kodo with lots of useful information.
Thank you very much.
Renovated from a traditional Japanese-style home into a guest house, the CUE is set in Tanabe of Wakayama Prefecture. Kii-Tanabe Station is just a 2-minute walk away from this property.

If you are an avid adventurer and nature lover, this place has it all. At night, wildlife comes into the room to draw blood. You can see it on the wall! At the time of check in, there were 9 other guests so there is always a scramble for the privately-shared shower room of one. There is 4 rooms on the first floor and 3 rooms on the second floor. The first floor rooms have good privacy allowing guests to peek into your room if your door is left ajar as it's along the main hallway from the main entrance. Imagine how peacefully you can sleep!
Set within 10 km of Kamitonda Concert Hall and 11 km of Kozan-ji Temple, Kumano Winery Guest House provides rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom in Tanabe.

The staff/owners were great. The food was delicious. The setting/surroundings were enjoyable (secluded & quiet with great views). The property is quite and a little on the basic side but that's part of the experience.

A beautiful well renovated traditional Japanese house. The host was very friendly and helpful to plan our trips and hike on Kumano Kodo. The breakfast at the café was delicious. We will stay here on our next visit. A wonderful experience!

Staff was able to provide information clearly and was fluent in English. He was also very kind to pick us up from the train station for free. He also provided suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. Highly recommend the accommodation due to the service and facilities.

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.
Such a wonderful and memorable experience! The owner puts so much thought and care into providing everyone with a great evening. Dinner was social (I was traveling alone and was introduced to other guests doing the same so that we had the option to eat together, which we did!) and the food was exceptional and fresh! The views at this hotel are some of the best I've ever seen. I'm not a morning person but the sunrise here is unmatched, the fog creeping out of the valley below is truly stunning.
Run by a really nice couple who provided lifts from Kii Tanabe station to the guesthouse and then from the guesthouse to the start of the Kumano Kodo the following forming in Takijiri Ōji. We got food before we arrived as there are no cooking facilities onsite but we did have a microwave in our room so could just bring something from the shop in the train station. For us it was a place to rest our heads for the night before the hike and it was perfect for that!
We loved this Guest House in a rural area close to Tanabe with a beautiful view of sea. The hosts Giovanni and Yakata were both very warm and welcoming. Giovanni cooked a fabulous 5 course Italian style meal for dinner and a lovely breakfast next morning. Our room was spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed the interaction with the hosts and other guests. We ordered the pickup and drop off which worked very smoothly.
The owner Kohei san was very accommodating. I really felt I was home.
The coffee was great. You can have it anytime you want.
The onsen was perfect to relieve your tiredness after the hike. I really liked it because you can enjoy the onsen by yourself.
I chose japanese breakfast during my 2days stay. It was perfectly enough to start my day because I had a long walk in Kumano Kodo.
This is an excellent private room / guest house prior to starting your Kumano Kodo. Quick walk to and from the train station / tourist agency. Plenty of restaurants abound in the near area, but make reservations! Air conditioning worked like a charm in late July with high humidity. The 2nd story balcony / porch was great for hanging my clothes out to dry.
The location is perfect; it is only a 5 minute walk to the Kii Tanabe station where you would have access to all kinds of transportation. The guesthouse is actually a traditional Japanese residence which has a very authentic feel. The host is kind and multilingual. It is an excellent base to explore the southern part of Wakayama Prefecture.
The location is great and the view is great. Visitors can overlook the whole village in the basin. And of course the beautiful sunset. The owner is very kind and nice. The hotel include well prepared breakfast and dinner, which every dish is impressive. If you are tired by the hiking, you can enjoy the onsen in the hotel also♨️
The host was very friendly and incredibly helpful with information about the Kumano Kodo hike. My private room and futon were comfortable and the bathroom was clean and tidy. It was everything I wanted for a rested night before I started my hike and I would absolutely stay here again!
Incredible japanese breakfast. All rooms with sea view, Onsen on the roof,
Staff really friendly and helpful, with their equipment they are able to communicate immediately with you in any language.
The hotel has a free shuttle for the the railway/bus station
The place is right on the Kumano Kodo trail. It has plenty of space and things to cook, even barbecue! I'm not sure if this is common but we had a whole house (with three bedrooms), if not you will share the shower, but each room has its own toilet.
A beautiful well renovated traditional Japanese house. The host was very friendly and helpful to plan our trips and hike on Kumano Kodo. The breakfast at the café was delicious. We will stay here on our next visit. A wonderful experience!
This was a nice stop during our kumano kodo experience. They are located right on the river where we could enjoy the onsen (next to the river and the public onsen.) The tatami room was comfortable and the dinner was delicious.
I really enjoyed the one night I had there as a chance to feel relaxed in a lovely traditional Japanese home. Tanabe seemed like a cool town too. The owner pointed out some good dinner options which didn't disappoint either!
Ugh! What a lovely experience! Quiet, unique, and the host is kind, caring, and the food was delicious! And the driver to the trail was a huge help! Totally different than a hotel and a great experience!
Amazing new place in Tanabe. Rooms are huge and incredibly comfortable. Tea and coffee provided on the house also very close to train station and Kumano Kodo information center.
Hosts were wonderful. Picked me up at Kii Tanabe station. Was able to go and visit their goats. Beautiful view. Perhaps the best meal I have ever eaten. Try the homemade umeshu.
The place is right on the Kumano Kodo trail, the staff was very helpful and even drove us to a restaurant to have dinner. The bed was very comfortable.
