unsui 武雄蓬莱町 雲水

Takeo Onsen, Takeo

Unsui 武雄蓬莱町 雲水 is set in the Takeo Onsen district of Takeo, 48 km from Yoshinogari Historical Park, 37 km from Huis Ten Bosch and less than 1 km from Takeo-Onsen Station. The accommodation was amazing. This was our 7th lodging during our trip, and all previous stays were either western or japanese, but Unsui was noteworthy in offering a comfortable mix of both--namely in the sense of having a western style dining room table adjacent to tatam living- and bed- rooms. This was a great bonus for one of the people in my party, whose knees and back were starting to get sore from sitting on the floor at so many places. Since we were a party of 2, it was nice that the living room could easily act as a bedroom, which sliding panel-walls that could fully close it off from both the bedroom as well as the adjacent kitchen. Everything was super clean and tidy and tastefully decorated. The hosts met us on arrival and were very warm and welcoming. They were well prepared with dossiers on both Takeo and many nearby towns (including every town that was on our agenda). They also gave us the lowdown on the nearby onsen. We had several conversations with them during our stay and would happily have more; they were great conversationalists with many experiences! The nearby onsen was less than a 5 minute stroll down the block, and has three different baths plus an attached museum to visit. Between the various entrances, they had a mix of indoor and outdoor baths, and some of them were very hot (no lukewarm waters here)! The later baths were open until midnight, and I went nearly every evening to close out the day. This was my first time using a bath that wasn't within my accommodation, so this aspect was a horizon-broadening moment for me. Takeo itself was also nicer than I expected. The very modern town library and adjacent (traditional) shrine were beautiful. The streets around the Unsui had many, small hole-in-the-wall establishments. It was an extremely comfortable base from which to explore Saga.

Urari Takeo Garden Terrace Spa Resorts 4 stars

Takeo Onsen, Takeo

Situated in Takeo, a 10-minute drive from JR Takeo-Onsen Station, Urari Takeo Garden Terrace Spa Resorts boasts air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi throughout the property. I was hesitant to book this resort initially as there was only 1 recent review when I booked, and the older reviews of the original hotel were not that good. However, I decided to take a chance and I'm so glad I did!!! The resort is newly renovated and all the furnishings and decor are all very clean and new. The resort location was ideal as I wanted to be located near Mifuneyama Rakuen so I could go see the Autumn colours at night (only 6 min drive away). The facilities on the resort were fantastic.... the spa pool required swimsuits which the resort thoughtfully prepared for each guest, all packed in individual tote bags. The hot spring pool was a a bit small, but the resort was not packed when we stayed, so there were no other people around when we used the spa pool or hot spring. But what impressed me the most has to be the amazing service we received. Most of the staff did not speak English or could only speak minimal English, but they always tried their best to understand our needs, and made us feel so comfortable. The staff's dedication and service quality are top-notch. The food was so amazing as well (The sukiyaki dinner and Japanese breakfast included in the stay were so good!)

Kyotoya 3 stars

Takeo Onsen, Takeo

Ryokan Kyotoya is 2 minutes from JR Takeo Onsen Train Station via the hotel’s free shuttle. It features natural hot-spring baths and multi-course Japanese meals in an elegant classical setting. The whole hotel well loved and maintained by the staffs. The room is large, with many comfortable facilities. The tatami smell is nice. The public bath house is great too. And I love the coffee lounge and the lobby antique display. As the hotel is at the Takeo onsen area, nearby there are many cute shops that has good food and cute things to sell.
