It was by far the best hotel experience we ever had! The region is amazing, nostalgic and peaceful (just like the perfect rural Japan we have dreamt of). The hotel staff is highly polite, helpful and lovely. The hotel itself is brand new and well designed. The hotel restaurant was delicious. And last but not least: the hotel room. Absolutely stunning, well thought and designed. So spacious, clean, private and aesthetic. We had the room with the private onsen and we will definitely coming back!!! Really a hidden gem we will keep in our hearts.

There was no single thing that we wouldn’t rate AT LEAST 10/10. Greatly recommend staying more than 2 nights, so the atmosphere of the place and climate truly kicks in.

Located alongside a river, Toshimaya features luxurious Japanese-style rooms with private hot spring baths, some open-air with river views. The hotel offers bicycle rentals. Property was beautiful and the staff was very helpful and friendly even though my Japanese is horrible. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Overall an amazing experience

Japanese inn Kashiwaya Ryokan offers traditional-style rooms with a private balcony. The spa hotel features private open-air natural hot spring baths, a restaurant and free-use bicycles. Exceptional hospitality and service at this ryokan. Fairly easy to find and access the bus. The meals and breakfasts were perfect and they give you a wide array of food based on your choice. The rooms were of traditional Japanese style and the whole place was clean. The private onsens were spot on and amazing to relax in while looking up at the mountains and easy to access.

The non-smoking Shima Yamaguchi-kan offers 3 types of hot spring baths and Japanese-style accommodation with Shima River view and free internet access. Beautiful property with amazing views. Spotless facilities. Kind and accommodating staff. Truly a wonderful stay.

Mountain retreat Shima Onsen Yoshimoto features an indoor and outdoor public hot spring bath, as well as a private-use one. Beautiful room and excellent private and shared onsen.
