Quirky little place away from the beach area but what a find.
Close to the Food Market, low key resturants and the not so ubiquitous bars.
Had a great laugh with one of the staff and his mates late at night after I returned from my usual night out.

I’m torn between reporting how beautiful this place is and a desire to see it not overrun with people 😬
The history here is so sad & tragic and yet in the last 50 years it has transformed to a most amazing retreat.

The location was so gorgeous and even better than we expected with the location being right at the beach.
Soft sand and coconut trees framing the Chrystal clear water and beautiful warm sea.
The staff were amazing and so attentive, drinks and food were good and free breakfast too.
We were able to hire a motorbike directly at reception and it was cheap and reliable and the room was just what we needed with a fridge and good A/C as it was hot weather.
Only down side was the the bathroom may have needed the tap fixing and the shower bracket fixing so a wee upgrade may help and we needed cups and spoons for making coffee so it would have been nice to have some cutlery, cups, plates and water glasses.
Would definitely recommend it as it felt really authentic and great location.
The local night market was interesting for food and some great places close by.
Such a beautiful island and super clean beaches with not alot of tourism which made it feel authentic and the scuba diving was beautiful with lots of gorgeous hard coral

Windy season is seriously windy - between December and March.
Amazing mountains but hiking is not well established and they try to keep tourists to a couple of specific spots. I think some mountains are off limits due to military but with some modern and professional tourism development, the potential to unlock these impressive mountains and forests is amazing.
I loved being on the island and was hit hard by what I saw in the museum and historical prisons. Definitely worth checking out.
I would have to say that the beaches are average and if you're an explorer looking for isolated little bays etc., you'll find some beautiful places decorated with all sorts of plastic ranging in colour and age.
When i go there again - which I will in better weather - I will get out on the water and find places to go diving and island hopping.
A really nice place with lots of "potential" if developed properly. I'll be back as there is plenty to explore...

Very peaceful and quiet island with lovely beaches.
Very peaceful and quiet island with lovely beaches. The snorkeling was okay but as the ocean was quite rough we had to go to different islands than the ones recommended. Maybe the other islands would have been more impressive. Most of the restaurants were seafood with huge tanks full of live fish etc....not really our thing. We discovered Bar 200 and Ula Cafe. Both had great food and happy friendly staff.

Very good beach and seaside, no traffic. It's a good place to relax.
It's a very important place for Vietnamese people, for Vietnam History.

The main warning: do NOT use ferry boat to go there.
The main warning: do NOT use ferry boat to go there. It is 4-4.5 hours of vomiting for entire boat. 7/9 right next to me were vomiting. Sorry for starting from such a nasty details, but you should be aware of it :)
This island is very different from the rest of Vietnam, because comparing with the rest of Vietnam it is nearly empty :) And that's awesome! Road traffic is very low.
At the same time I had a feeling that entire island is targeting local customers, who came to visit prison, to respect memory of their relatives, who passed away there. Because of that, huge amount of shops are selling stuff for bringing it to tomb or church.
As a consequence of point above, it is very-very difficult to find non-local food. I would say 99% places offer only local food.
Another consequence is that noise from locals in night and early morning time (starting from 4-5 am when they wake up): karaoke, just shouting on the street, shouting behind your door in hotel, etc., etc.
Make sure you have earplugs, though they not always help.
I think the best you can do on this island is to rent motorbike and explore it yourself. There are quite some places with really amazing view! And not crowded. Again, it is unbelievable for Vietnam :) If you are in diving, most probably you can do it there as well.
Uyen has put a lot of effort and love into the guesthouse, with personal decorative touches. Her three cats are very lovely, too. It felt like I was coming home when I returned in the evenings. The AC worked very well. The size of the private room was adequate, with pleasant natural and artificial lighting. Uyen makes delicious breakfasts and fabulous pizza. The price matched the services received. If you are looking for a budget friendly, welcoming, safe place to stay in laid back Con Dao, stay with Uyen.
Garden House is like a home in a garden. Lovely, clean spacious room on second floor with beautiful mountain views. The water dispenser in the room was great. Outside, is a seperate communal kitchen, dining or BBQ area. We enjoyed a morning coffee and breakfast in the garden listening to the forest insects and birds. The hosts are such helpful and pleasant people. The location is a short ride out of the town where shops/restaurants are. Thank you for a wonderful stay on Con Dao island.
The room was modern, spacious and the bed was comfortable. the pool is great and the staff were very helpful. the breakfast is good. we were upgraded to a pool room view, but this was a mixed blessing as a large number of guests (Vietnamese) would cavort loudly in the pool every morning at 6am, which to my mind is a bit early to be waking all the guests by shouting to each other in the pool. This would last from about 6am to 6:30am, then the pool area would be quiet again.
We had a 5 night stay on the Island.
Eden coffee house is away from the main town and is surrounded by all the local life and some lovely big trees.
Trinh and Hai make this the best place to stay as they are super helpful and so friendly.
Good scooter rental and a very easy place to get around, with all their suggestions. Some beautiful
unspoilt beaches.Great snorkelling trip, arranged by Trinh.
Lovely food and big portions.
Missing the fruit bowl!
Amazing location on the island, very quiet and no hustle. Beautifully designed rooms, great spa facilities and nice stretch of beach. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. FYI - 20 minutes drive into the town, there is a shuttle or you can get a motorbike. There are hiking trails off the resort, plenty to explore. If you are looking to treat yourself and simply want to unwind and relax, this is the place for you.
The hotel is clean and cosy, the room we had was bigger than the other places we had in Vietnam. The owner was always smiling and trying to support us (and drove with me a couple of times in the city trying to find a place where to exchange money on Saturday as the bank is closed). She always gives us fruits or some other food. Totally recommend the place - the best value for money you will find on the island.
The location was perfect being right on the beach. A few hotels on Con Dao say beachfront but they are actually across the road from the beach. It was an easy walk to the harbour, markets and restaurants. We had a garden view bungalow but we could see the ocean from our balcony. The room was nice with a large open air bathroom. The ocean view bungalows actually have a much smaller bathroom.
Loved the ocean view. The pool area was very enjoyable. We took advantage of the happy hour specials in the lounge. The breakfast buffet was extensive. Our bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. We rented a scooter and were able to take advantage of exploring the island. Anh at the front desk was amazing! She looked out for us and a couple of other staff also spoke English.
We stayed here for 6 nights and were pleased by the hotel and room overall. They were able to accommodate our request for a balcony and we were on the 4th floor so had a great view of the town and ocean. The room was very spacious and clean. They came in to clean daily and give us new towels. The staff did not appear to speak much English but we were able to communicate.
Incredible design, super clean, immaculately presented, good breakfast, friendly staff, beautiful view from the roof, close to beaches, some very good restaurants around (we especially loved vegetarian restaurant next door). All in all amazing value for money and one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at. 3 stars is a serious understatement!
The hotel is very nice and comfortable, located in the center close by to the beach and main attractions on the island.
We rented a scooter as well and it was well maintained and smooth ride.
The owner was very cooperative and responsive.
Incredible premises - we stayed almost the entire duration of our trip. Great private beach, beautiful pool design, beautiful restaurant, lots of options for outdoor seating. Room and bathroom are generously sized, chic and comfortable.
We had a great 11 night stay! We looked and looked however you cannot go past this beach location!!! Get in now!!! Staff exceptional! Rooms are great! Pay the extra for beach as well worth it!! Best place in con Dao island!!!
Great hotel in the heart of the city. New, clean, spacious rooms. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful in every way. The pool was a delight as well. The staff made it very easy to rent a motorbike.
Beautiful infinity pool, lovely view from the room, beautiful private beach in a lovely green secluded part of the island with stunning nature and monkeys! Very helpful and sweet reception staff.
Staff is very friendly and always willing to help. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Cleanest toilets i have seen in a vietnamese hostel. Location is also quite central.
Breakfast was good with many selection. The location on the beach was great and the service was excellent. Seafood restaurants were just across the street.
