Reikartz Kokand, hotel in Kokand

Situated in Kokand, Reikartz Kokand features free WiFi. At the hotel, rooms come with a wardrobe and a flat-screen TV.

The hotel is well positioned near the main tourist attractions, a ten-minute walk away. Breakfast is half local, half continental, with a variety of products. I would recommend it for a short stay, even though it felt a little overpriced compared to room conditions (no water bottles; I had to ask for them, and because of a dust allergy, I had to sleep in my sleeping bag—maybe due to the air conditioning filters or the carpet).

Nice hotel with a restaurant that is open late. Very helpful staff. Great location - on the edge of old town, but just a stone's throw away from the palace and glitzy high street.

Kokand is a smallish city with less traffic and less pollution than Tashkent. There are plenty of sites to see and it is an easy day trip to other places in the Fergana valley. The O'rda restaurant in the main square is highly recommended. Taxis are bright yellow so easy to stop. The two half days that I had there were not enough.

Kokand is often overlooked by visitors to Uzbekistan as it is not close to the ‘Big 3’ - Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. The opening of the Kamchik tunnel and the train service that started a few years ago has made it more accessible, only 4 hours from Tashkent on a spacious, modern train (although not high speed). The Khan’s palace is well worth seeing, and the pottery village of Rishtan and silk town Margilan are not far away. It deserves more tourists than it currently gets.
