The food was very good, but probably the best thing was the amazing staff. They were so warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I love that they have a free laundry service - and our washing came back so beautifully folded!

Microlet mini bus 10 turn 12 to cristo Rey, at the moment they are upgrading the steps so u cannot use them, but you can scramble up the side of the hill, keep both hands free, it’s tricky if you’re not mobile

Dili is easy to get around and there is plenty to see particularly if you are interested in East Timor's recent history, you can see where tragic events in the liberation struggle happened and the museums are well presented.
There are excellent beaches, good places to eat with local food at reasonable prices.
Try to get to the moonlight cinema on Friday night-you can sit by the beach and have a meal while watching a film.

Fantastic .I had a great time.
Fantastic .I had a great time. Could have stayed much longer and checked out more places and looked around more. The history of this place is off the scale and at times very confronting. The people were very friendly to us and surprised to see us travelling on the microlets.Which the easiest and best way to get around the city. Otherwise you pay a fortune in taxis. As an Australian the exchange rate at the time was woeful .Was a bit expensive as all in US dollars.

Make sure you take enough cash in $US, it’s very hard to find a place that takes credit cards (and if so it’s VISA only) and there don’t seem to be any foreign exchange places. Global roaming doesn’t work either.

Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights over Easter 2023.
Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights over Easter 2023. It was a great place to wind down - walked up to the Cristo Rei statue, all of 570 steps, well worth it. Visited the Santa Cruz Cemetery - sadly not much signage about the massacre in 1991 - however can read up on the internet before going there. Went to Areia Beach, beautiful soft, clean white sand - suitable for swimming. Also visited the Timor Plaza Shopping Centre to buy a simcard and phone credit to call the blue taxi as required. Stayed at the Plaza Hotel (not the one at the Shopping Centre, there is one closer to the seaside). Accommodation was safe, clean and comfortable with a Chinese restaurant adjoining the accommodation - meal times are very flexible. Loved the lush tropical vegetation and the mountains and sea, stunning scenery. It's easy to see that Dili is still developing, great improvements in infrastructure, services and business will no doubt forge ahead in the future. I would recommend Dili for solo travellers, safe to walk around in the day time.

Dili is a fantastic get away from Darwin.
Dili is a fantastic get away from Darwin. For food buffers that are many restaurants offering culturally diverse dishes such as Timorese, Chinese, Portuguese etc. I particularly, enjoy the beachside restaurants along Areia Branco, towards Cristo Rei area for breakfast or lunch and happy hour on Friday nights at Timor Plaza. If you're there over a weekend, try a day trip over to Atauro Island and for longer stays, a trip to climb Mt Ramelau or to Jaco Island to see endangered species of turtles.
The Excelsior must have been a great hotel in its time, but after 2 years of covid, its battling: the breakfast is good, otherwise they are efficient at room service. But i missed a sitting room where one can have a drink for example. Also, for us as private tourists, we found that its a little too far from the cbd and main attractions of Dili. Otherwise the Excelsior is good value for money, and the staff is very helpfull.
This hotel isn't built like a modern western hotel, which is fine with me, though it had all the expected amenities, resources, and professionalism. My room was great and the staff were very kind and helpful. The internet was slugging but that seemed true everywhere, so, it is no slight of the hotel's. I'd stay here again.
The build quality, amenities, large tv screen and Netflix, separate bathrooms, back up generator, comfortable beds and bedding, air-conditioners and fans, ventilation vents, cleanliness and full stock of condiments in the kitchen in a prime location mean one of the best stays for price in Dili. Also a great host.
Very close to a lot of Microlet (bus) lines, downtown, and the seafront walk (Largo de Lecidere). The host is always available on the phone if you need anything, AC works perfectly, and the bathroom is good for the Dili average. It has a rural feel but is in the heart of the city.
Hot shower! Breakfast was free (bit small tho). Staff super lovely and there were a bunch of cute kittens! Free coffee and tea all of the time was great, met some lovely people staying as everyone kind of ends up hanging out. Only room with AC I had in East Timor!
The restaurant and 4th floor outdoor bar were excellent. The prople behind the reception desk were very helpful and pleasant to deal with as were the staff in the restaurant & bar. The hotel is placed in a modern complex that has many eateries and a cinema.
Location is perfect, right beside main landmarks. Reception staff is very very friendly, helped with everything and always available. Breakfast has a large choice and available a bit early.
Rooms are large and design of the hotel is in some national style.
everything was good except the fact that we have to find the cash to pay for the hotel. We only had Mastercard which is not accepted in Timor Leste so we could not withdraw any cash from ATM. We had to ask our friend who lives in Dili to lend us some cash.
Staff were very friendly and tried hard to make it a pleasant stay. Food in the restaurant was good. Airport pickup was helpful. The hotel is operated by a charity and seems like a good venture to support.
The location to the city was ideal. It's one of the more inexpensive hotels in the city, so do not expect luxury. As a 21-year-old wanting to travel to a niche country, it fit all of my expectations :)
The service as excellent. The hotel restaurant had great food. Also hotel organised taxis and airport drop off. I would definitely recommend this place. Excellent location and great view!
Probably the best "business" hotel in Dili at the moment with shopping arcade downstairs and healthy food/Australian grocer. Airport shuttle. Strategic location
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel manager made our stay memorable and was very helpful in showing us around Dili. Thank you Kamarul!
