Ranong has much to offer, three hot springs in the area you can access by renting a motorbike, or renting a car, or hiring a car or see-lor (truck) with driver. Two of the hot springs are relatively close proximity to Ranong Town. The weekend street market, closed to vehicle traffic, is charming, with tradition old style ways of cooking desserts and savory dishes. Along with this plethora of different types of street food, are local street buskers, who know and play their music well. What is especially touching and memorable about Ranong, are how open and caring the locals are. We have visited three times, and are looking forward to our next return.

Like what they say, Ranong is biodiverse.
Like what they say, Ranong is biodiverse. We saw a place where there were hundreds of fireflies. It was very beautiful. We stayed most of the days (lockdown) in Koh Payam. It is an island with beautiful beaches, hornbill birds, otters and of course snakes. It is worth the lockdown days. We love it there. There was an old woman who almost adopted us because she's very kind to us. and for advertisement her place is Maronee Guesthouse. Such a kind-hearted woman.

First time here and have spent only a day before departing on live aboard dive trip. Very pleasant, quiet and affordable location. No hassling or bustling traffic and hawkers here. Definately a cool and relaxed location and one can enjoy oneself here. More over a launch spot to Myanmar and the islands here. Will investigate the region further afield on our return to Ranong after the live aboard.

We did not plan to go there.
We did not plan to go there. We cancelled our trip to Vietnam due to the Covid-19 situation. I also needed to make a Visa run so we decided to spend our 5 day vacation in Ranong.
Getting around is a bit expensive. You will not see any tuk-tuks. Transportation is mostly by songtow, which is cheap enough in the city, but venturing out to the various attractions cost more. Mind you, it's all relative. We spent 1000 bt for a four hour trip to the national park by songtow, about an hour distance each way. The day rate was 1,500 bt.
The town is mid-size, not too busy. There are hot springs and a national park with a great natural beach (by that I mean not domesticated with resorts etc, - it must be awesome in stormy weather) not too far from town. The local food (especially the roti) was great. We went early March and the waterfall attraction was dried up.
The Visa run was an adventure. Take a boat (half an hour or so) across to the southern tip of Myanmar, pay 10 US$ to enter/exit, then back to the boat and return to Thailand (Ranong). 600 bt for the boat trip.
We enjoyed our time there, but in honesty, once was enough.

A Day Inn Ranong hostel is by far the best hostel I have stayed at in Thailand. The hostel is located in an excellent location not too far from Ranong port and Bus terminals, as well as being on a street full of many restaurants with all sorts of cuisine. The hotel staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, going out their way for me twice to ensure excellent customer satisfaction. They even offered me dumplings while I waited for my bus the day after my stay the next day and they were delicious. The bunk-bed dorms are spacious, immaculately clean and quiet so you can definitely get a great nights sleep. The shared bathrooms are great and the showers were hot and powerful. The hostel itself has a really nice design and layout and is very relaxing whilst staying or working off a laptop there. There is really nothing bad I can say about this hostel and I will say again, the best hostel in Thailand!!!

Plenty to do from here.
Plenty to do from here. Easy to navigate around town but watch out for footpaths if raining; very slippery. Good choice of food venues and a couple good bars. Acces to islands but check around for boat prices.
The breakfast was Thai desserts. The location is outside the city - you need a car or motorcycle. The room was very, very clean. The bed is nice. There is a salt water swimming pool. The price is very good. But
(... and I say this with good intentions - while giving a high score) it is probably not a good idea to keep chickens and roosters near the hotel room, unless you want that your customers get up at 4AM every day..... The owner is very kind. My general impression is very positive.
Centrally located, about 6km from the bus stn-blue or green shared/moto taxi available there-plenty of shops, restaurants etc.If you are going to the pier then flag a green taxi across the rd from DH,they are frequent.
Staff friendly, polite etc and gave me plent of useful info.Bungalows are a good option-less noisy than a typical hotel.
For me this was an excellent budget option,if I ever return to Ranong I would stay at the Dahla House again.
The beds on the rooms are HUGE and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and fresh with lots to choose from. The staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is not in the centre of town but nicely tucked away in the north of the town with easy walking distance to everything. The pool and gym very nice too
The breakfast mainly caters to Thai tastes but there's enough variety for everyone.
We like the fact that there's a restaurant belong to the hotel that serves excellent food for a very good price.
The hotel is situated in the town centre so easy to get around.
The hotel is so nice, quiet, surrounded by trees and mountains.
The staff are incredibly nice and helpful.
There are restaurant, bar, and pool inside the hotel area.
The best escape in Ranong so far.
Hopefully visit again on the next trip to Ranong.
Friendly and helpful staff. The room are clean and tidy. The hotel is located in a nice location with a good view of the mountain. They claim that the running water in the hotel is a mineral water from the mountain.
Good location. The beach is very nice for swimming and sunbathing. Resorts restaurant is right at the beach. Easy to access, not crowded and quiet at night. The room we stayed in was newly renovated and clean.
Good quality room at central street in Ranong.
Restaurants within walking distance.small Myanmar market nearby. Breakfast is so so but considering the price all is more than expectedly
Modern rooms, helpful staff. Its Ranong, not a massive holiday spot but often required a nights stay to get to Koh Phayam. Hosts really helped us out ordering some food.
Good small hotel with friendly staffs. I think it run by the family. When we was there it under renovation but there was no problem since we always out in day time.
This place was quiet and green, I would say “Back to basics” hotel. Everything made by wood which was nice. The manager was super sweet, made sure we’re okay.
