There is plenty to do in Khon Kaen and lots of places to visit. I would definitely recommend a vist to Ton Tann night Market. A vast variety of food stalls with wonderful food together with general market selling clothing and many other goods. There is also live entertainment with a number of bars close by.

Khon Kaen is my waypoint for journeys to the north not accessible by train, so I don't see the sights (like bouldering). Khon Kaen, compared to frenetic and chaotic Bangkok, seems sober, even sedate. However, Khon Kaen grows on you, because it has everything you could want, and is manageable. No traffic jams! Getting around is easy with tuk tuks (pricey), song taews, a municipal bus system, and Grab.
My favorite restaurant is a solid and reliable "boiled rice place," at Pimphasut and Clang Muang, open 'til 1:00am:

For us it is really nice since we have family living there.
For us it is really nice since we have family living there. Visiting the Khon Kaen museum is well worth a trip to see the history of Khon Kaen and the people living there throughout history.
We recommend using Grab for getting around Khon Kaen since it is cheap and working really well. If you want to drive around and explore more of Khon Kaen and Isaan renting a car is well worth it. We rented a car for a for a couple of days one week and for our last week and went on several trips that we enjoyed. Visiting different markets is well worth it and the Saturday market on the road close to Romantic Inn is a nice way to spend the evening with good food and friendly people.

Town was clean and tidy and appeared safe.
The local covered food market is huge and very well priced. Oysters were 100bht for 3 dozen with condiments. And beautiful.
Singha Golf Course is excellent.
It is a busy city. Local nightclubs are busy with a strong student presence.

I have been to Khon Kaen many times over many years , and have seen this town grow from a small town to a large busy .modern town.
Khon Kaen , has many places to see and even more great places to eat , being a university town it is very vibrant and the town seems to reflect that. Temples are a great reason to visit this city , but food seems to be the very big attraction.
Location in central Khon Kaen off Sri Chant is good; coffee shops and food hall nearby. Room is mid-sized but new. Good bedding, good mattress. Plenty of plugs and a good-sized desk. Reading lights over the bed! New clean bathroom with good hot water. Fridge. The fan is a nice touch for those bothered by Arctic Thai aircon. Quiet.
The exceptional 24/7 front desk handled my absurdly late arrival and called me a cab for my outbound journey to Loei. Knowing I was going to Phi Ta Khon festival, they printed me out a brochure!
As mentioned by many reviews, the hotel is getting old. But it is still well maintained in my opinion. It exudes an atmosphere of outdated luxury, but that's what I like about it. The staff is really very attentive. Breakfast absolutely sufficient for the price paid. Water pressure excellent on the 9th floor. My room was very clean, even some of the "hidden places" were clean, which is quite unusual in Thailand, you know.

From the moment my wife and I arrived we were met with smilling employees that couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant was really good.
I had booked two rooms, then my kids decided they wanted to stay home the hotel staff went above and beyond to ensure I got a full refund for the 2nd room.
This hotel is definitely the better of any hotels 9 have stayed in while I've been in khon kean.
All staff members are very helpful. They call a taxicab for us. The tax driver charged us at standard price unlike the taxi that we called by ourselves. The one that we called by ourselves were charged us triple price because they saw that my husband is a foreigner.
However, for the taxi that hotel called for us, I gave him double of what his meter said as he was very reasonable.
The ease in which Booking.com allowed us to make a reservation in Thailand instantly for a family member travelling in Thailand for that evening when we are in the UK and then The Hop Inn replying to us immediately with the answer to a special request. The Hop Inn were expecting there guest extremely late and welcomed him with Parking be no problem. Excellent
Overall design was good, stayed here during covid when I visited Khon Kaen however this time was really disappointed. Food was good and reasonably priced. Booked and paid for 2 nights but checked out and went elsewhere for the second night…..just didn’t feel comfortable with the low standards
I have been staying at this hotel on and off for 15 years. I have to say that the strength of the hotel is the staff. They are always courteous and helpful. I love the location of the hotel and the ease by which you can get to landmarks around Khon Kaen.
