The bedroom was nice. The surroundings were beautiful. The house is situated in a village that's abandoned. It was interesting to see how nature took over the houses.

This is the perfect overnight resting place if you are driving from Portugal up to one of the ports in Cantabria in North Spain. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a choice of hotels and rooms.
There are a good range of banks here also. Really, it has everything you would want to find in a staging post.

Mine was an overnight stop en-route North from mid Portugal.
Mine was an overnight stop en-route North from mid Portugal.
In view of this short stop, I couldn't possibly (or accurately) present an image of the town of Vilar Formoso.
I will however, commend the facilities (supermarkets and eateries) just over the Spanish border which make and excellent stop off place for authentic food and wine gifts.
This is a little gem, situated in a secluded spot but still only a few minutes from the motorway. Room P was delightful with a large relaxing area. Room Q was more functional, two bedrooms and a bathroom however we were able to sit around and chill in room P. I think booking both rooms is ideal for a party of six. The village/town of Vilar Formoso is a ten minute stroll away and there are perfectly acceptable restaurants here as well as the restaurant on site.
The hotel grounds are very large with a big play area for the kids, including a soccer goal, trampoline and 4 mini-golf holes. The rooms were large, clean and looked great. The people working there were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was absolutely amazing - the 2 person steak was fabulous and great value for 30 euros.
I got poisoned by stupidly drinking the tap water in the bathroom as there were no signs to caution against drinking it. Its my fault but I would not have done it had I seen the sign.
It's a good transit hotel, clean and spacious.
