We liked the personal approach and introduction of the house. And also helped us orient us in the town.
Spacious, comfortable for the whole family.
Kitchen fully equipped with basic ingredients for a breakfast.
Washing mashine was also useful.
Featuring an outdoor swimming pool, this country retreat is located 180 km from Oporto, within typical Portuguese stone houses.

Absolutely wonderful stay at Casa do Barca. The host Bruno met us, made sure we understood the airconditioners, smart TV and all the amenities. The place is beautiful, an old stone house perfectly re-done, walking distance from everything in town, and also walking distance (if you are up for a hike, which we were) to the Museum de Coa. It's a real gem!

Thank you to Filomena and Gunther for a memorable stay in your absolutely gorgeous quinta. We absolutely loved everything about our stay, most of all to you both, not only is the place enchanting, but you are! The room we stayed in is gorgeous with those lovely views over the hillsides, breakfast is amazing and your attention to detail faultless. We look forward to our next stay.
The views were fantastic. The pool area was charming and had the unbelievable view. Our room had a terrace that wasn’t really usable and didn’t have the view. Try to book a different room. The archeology museum is just down the road and is a must see. Book a tour of the sites of the rock carvings as soon as possible.

The town itself is nothing to write home about - quiet, provincial, one or two restaurants and a few shops. The Coa Valley, 2km away, was excellent: a great museum, interesting trips to see the paleological engravings and lovely scenery.

The Paleolithic archaeological Park is truly fascinating as is the story of how the local people, especially the young, allied with others around the country managed to save the prehistoric rock carvings. The museum is great for children! The visit to the actual rock carvings requires some strenuous hiking up and down and can be quite hot. Aim for other than the summer time or at least go early in the morning. And the museum has a lovely restaurant.

It’s quite a nice town to pass by on the road.
It’s quite a nice town to pass by on the road. Good food is a bit harder to find but the local shops are perfect for meats and cheeses. If you’re a fan of going off the beaten track, skip the museums and parks and go up to Castelho Melhor to find another authentic little village amidst the almond and olive trees, there’s also some of those engravings.

Great for the rock cavings.
Great for the rock cavings. Difficult to find a place for lunch in the town so probably best to eat at the hotel restaurant. Nice to visit the municipal swimming pool after the visit at the museum on the hot day. The ticket is only 1.50 :)

This is a small sleepy town and we were lucky to find one restaurant open for lunch. Having said that, it was a wonderful meal at a very good price. The location is spectacular, and the museum and archeological sites should not be missed. This was one of the highlights of our trip.

The location: the hotel is not at the heart of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, but it is only five minutes away from it. There are several restaurants a few minutes away (walking distance) either towards the centre or away from it, making the hotel more central than one would think. If you are looking for a beautiful area this is not what you will get, but the hotel is really 200 m from the start of the centre, and the area is not ugly either. It is just "normal". The breakfast was good, with great choice.
Vila Auri is located at the end of a winding mountain road on arrival the location has a breathtaking view over the vineyards and the river Douro. We had dinner at the hotel and were treated to both excellent home cooking and a selection of lovely wines from the estate. Hospitality was excellent.
The hotel was fantastic and the staff person working there was wonderful - she was very cheerful, friendly, lovely with the kids, and handled all our questions The pool was also great! We all loved our stay and would definitely go there again.
