Casa Novelhos was exactly what we were looking for- secluded and quiet, specious and generously equipped. The location is heaven for those looking to get away from the city hassle. It’s a driving distance from a supermarket and a couple of small restaurants and for us who prefer cooking their own meals the kitchen was like at home.
Miguel was very kind, responsive and trustful.
Many of the Douro valley treasures are within a 30-90 minutes drive. The house is also surrounded by hidden gems to hike and explore by just existing the front gate.
Highly recommended.

Quaint and quiet and mainly locals so google translate was a must. Lovely to see how a lot of the old architecture has been preserved people are friendly and the pace is slow. 1hr on public transport to Porto

Hotel states that it has an excellent restaurant that provides the best gastronomic proposals and wine in the region. It does not state that the restaurant is closed. This is only revealed on arrival. Very disappointing for such an architecturally fine hotel that could be so good. Hotel also has a no cancellation policy and takes payment even though it was not possible to stay due to there being no restaurant facilities.

A trip to the countryside offers a much needed respite from the hustle and bustle of crowded cities, traffic and pollution.
Reconnecting to nature, simpler lifestyle, less choices allowed us to sleep earlier, have a better rest and enjoy what nature has in abundance for us: clean air, beautiful vistas, scenic drives and being close to the rivers and mountains in the region is offset by lovely little communities, regional cuisine and experiences that are unavailable in urban settings.
The hotel is interesting and stylish without being pretentious. They provided a large room, a nice bathroom and a very comfortable bed. We had a ground floor room overlooking the pool. The breakfast had varied choices, was served at table, and was very nice. The staff was as helpful as could be. This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. I wish we could have stayed longer.

We liked being in the beautiful town of Penafiel to visit our relatives. I liked the hotel, pool and staff. It was interesting that different football teams came to stay. Being from the UK it was good that we had parking available too.
