I stayed only one night here and I thought it was great. I can't remember the name of the guy at reception but he came out and suggested a couple of places to park my motorcycle. Basically 2 or 3 mtrs from the hotel entrance where there was more space. Wow the view I had from the front bedroom. Fab location. Breakfast was also great.

The drive up to Casa de David in Monsanto's old town was kind of difficult. But once we arrived we could find a parking spot near the accommodation.
The room we stayed in was adequate for 3 adults.
Estela is a friendly host.

Lugar São Salvador de Monsanto is situated in Monsanto. Guests can benefit from a patio and an outdoor fireplace. The property is non-smoking and is set 600 metres from Monsanto Castle.
Monsanto was a bit other worldly in some ways. There was an old castle with an archangel Michael chapel - the House of the Dragon, a TV series, was filmed there. Many of the buildings had a huge boulder as one side of the structure or maybe a roof. We loved the hiking around there as well. And the views were spectacular. You could just feel the history around you.

Monsanto has been the highlight of our trip to Portugal and Spain so far.
It is so authentic and real, the buildings are amazing and the views are outstanding.
The walk up to the Castle is a little challenging but so worth the effort.
We were there for the medieval festival and were made very welcome by the locals and we had some memorable times there.
If you are in the Douro Valley, make the effort to head to Monsanto if you want to visit an authentic and historic village.

Monsanto is the most unique small town we visited on our 3wk trip to Portugal. You can start to see the massive boulders from the base of the hillside and then it's 5 km straight up winding narrow road. You will need your host to show you where to park.

It is a good idea to book a place for the night.
It is a good idea to book a place for the night. The views are so incredible and unique you will want to experience day and night in amongst the boulders. There is a wonderful hike to the ruins above the boulder village. There is spectacular lighting in the evening. The village is quite out of the way for travelling. This was our second visit to Monsanto so we knew to book for the night. Lots of unique places to eat. We ate at our hosts' spot and it was great. Once you arrive amongst the boulders, you don't have to leave until your stay is over. You can find all you need there.

Very unique.
Very unique. Great trekking up to the fort (short but steep). We really enjoyed the “rock village”. Our meal at Pestitos and Granitos was delicious. We recommend Monsanto fro those looking for a unique experience.

It's a very peaceful place with lots of great views and we found a lovely bistro to eat at. Some of the roads are very steep and you have to park and walk so for someone not so good on their feet this wouldn't be suitable
1) Gracious, kind, helpful, interesting, and accommodating hosts - can’t speak highly enough about them, and Eloíza was beyond fantastic! She helped arrange a driver to take us from and to Castelo Branco’s bus station.
2) Breakfast - the best we had in Portugal
3) Warm and welcoming house with very comfortable bed
4) Location — terrace overlooks sweeping landscape, stone houses everywhere!, hiking trails from town, roses at peak flowering, and it’s just a 5-10 minute walk to the coolest fort and castle we’ve ever visited
Absolutely well located. Monsanto is a magical place. Parking near by. Beautiful room and BnB. Cute little store where I bought several dresses for a good price. Good breakfast. Very good value for the money. The host is incredibly kind. She even booked a dinner reservation for us in a delicious restaurant. It is recommended to book in advance because there are few options for dinner. I wish we will come back to Monsanto and we will definitely stay there again!!
Very good location. Hotel street (Fernando Namora) too narrow to drive or park, best to park when you get there at the 6 or 8 space car park when you start seeing the first cafe. It is maybe 100 meters walk uphill to the hotel, okay with carry-on size luggage. Minimal breakfast with juice, tea/coffee, cheese, meat slices, bread rolls, and jam. Contrary to description, no outlet accessible from bedstand and no hair dryer.
An absolute pleasure to stay here with super kind and relaxed hosts. Monsanto was our favourite town in Portugal and our wonderful and thoughtfully designed accommodation and kind hosts added enormously to our experience. The charming terrace was a wonderful place for breakfast or a drink. The sister restaurant also had a glorious terrace and excellent food. Highly recommended! Can't wait to return!
The breakfast was delicious. The house keepers, Ingrid and Thorsten were wonderful! They made my stay extra special and although it was quick, I will always remember my stay here. Monsanto is a beautiful little town, a lovely walk away from the house. I can't wait to come back and spend more time walking the charming streets. Keep driving past the church when you arrive, you're almost there!
This was such a cool quirky place to stay. Had a great view from the balcony. Great to have a washing machine. Contact with the host was good. Stayed here with our daughter - bedrooms were small so had our suitcases in the 'lounge'.
Monsanto is definitely worth the visit, one night is enough to see it all but if you have time and want to chill out take an extra night.
The location was smack in the middle of town so we were already close to all the cool things about Monsanto (the narrow streets with boulders, castle, etc). The apartment was so cozy, the rooftop terrace was so neat, our room going up the spiral staircase was very nice. Could accommodate four people due to the bedroom in the basement that my wife and I did not use.
This area of Portugal is very remote and while there are villages there are no facilities like supermarkets or restaurants (that were open). The breakfast provided was excellent but there was no fridge or even tea making facilities in the room and no opportunity to have a meal in the hotel. This was unfortunate as there was no restaurant open within a 30km radius.
This is the cutest little house very centrally located in Monsanto. It has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms and bedrooms, living room and the most amazing terrace to watch the sunset. Everything is connected with stairs. Eloíza and Fernando are really welcoming and even help with parking, luggage, restaurant reservations or other useful information.
Very authentic room in authentic building. In the center of this unusual town. There was a place for parking. We arrived late and nearest restaurant was down by the road (20-25 minutes walk), but it worth it - nice walk in the night.
The breakfast was very cozy and only for us. Thanks for the staff of the hotel!
We are very grateful to the owner Elena for her exceptional hospitality. The house is located in the historical mountain village Monsanto and beautifully renovated. Elena helped us with delivering our baggage from the parking lot and brougt us welcoming traditional delicious soup. Thank you, Elena!
Location, large rooms and clean. Plenty of hot water. Electrical plug next to bed. Did not give s 10 because elevator was broken when we arrive. But on check in stag hand carry luggage to 2 nd floor. I have lumbar spinal stenosis. And in Monsanto there is a lot climbing
What an amazing accommodation! Fully updated but built in the 15th Century! One of the Monsanto boulders is even built into the bedroom! Watching the sunset from the front porch was amazing! Eloíza and Fernando were such amazing hosts! A wonderful and memorable stay!
This is a wonderful place to stay. A little out of the way, but not hard to find, and close to Monsanto. During our stay, the oranges were ripe - and delicious. The breakfast was excellent, and Ingrid was very helpful. I'd love to return.
Such a quaint accommodation, homely and cute! Our hosts went out of their way to help us and breakfast was great! An amazing stay in Monsanto and we would definitely recommend staying here!
Comfy bed, cozy room, clean and nice bathroom, breakfast and service is excellent, staffs are professionals. I'm sure I choose this hotel again when I go back to Castelo Branco.
